Fresh Beginnings at TechHelp

Catherine CantleyRenewal is in the air as Spring 2019 arrives and new TechHelp staff members take root and flourish. New staff members include Food Specialist, Catherine Cantley (L), who brings a wealth of new skills, expertise, and service offerings to the TechHelp Team. Catherine is an experienced Senior Research and Development Manager with demonstrated expertise in food manufacturing, process engineering, product optimization, food safety, and sensory and consumer science. Catherine offers a wide range of services that you can leverage within your company.

Learn more about Catherine from Catherine in this short video that explores "Manufacturing Variability and Sample Size". The video includes an explanation of Demming's Funnel Experiment and a useful QA Macro for determining sample size that Catherine will send to you upon request.  If you'd like to explore this or other topics in more detail, contact Catherine to schedule a meeting or a free assessment of your operation.

TechHelp is also pleased to welcome Jolene Cram (R) to the team. Jolene is the Food Safety Project Manager for a multi-state initiative of the MEP National Network, of which the TechHelp is a part. Jolene will assist in connecting food manufacturers and growers in Montana, Idaho, and Washington with food safety specialists and programs in the region.

TechHelp's FSPCA Preventive Controls for Human Food Course on April 29-30 at North Idaho College in Post Falls, ID is a great example of how Catherine and Jolene are working together to meet the needs of food producers in the region. The course will be taught by Craig Doan of TechHelp's sister center, Impact Washington, and will draw attendees from across the tri-state area.

TechHelp's New Product Development Team at the Boise State NPD Lab is emerging from its annual graduation turnover. Mechanical Engineering students, Caleb Picklesimer and Jordan Lundgren, join the long line of student employees who have provided key product design, development, and prototyping services to Idaho inventors and entrepreneurs. Caleb and Jordan bring fresh skill sets and perspectives that will continue to make the lab a vital resource.
FSPCA Preventive Controls for Human Food Workshop
April 29-30 at NIC in Post Falls, ID
The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Final Rule for Preventive Controls for Human Food requires nearly every food facility to staff a Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) who can write or reanalyze their Food Safety Plan.  If your plant does not yet have a PCQI, or you want to take advantage of a food safety and risk assessment training without traveling out of Idaho, our 2-day Preventive Controls for Human Food Course in Post Falls is a great opportunity.  This is the “standardized curriculum” recognized by the FDA and led by Craig Doan, a Lead FSPCA Instructor. Participants who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate of completion directly from the FSPCA and meet the PCQI requirements. If you have questions about FSMA or you seek specific course information, contact Catherine Cantley at 208-426-2181 or catherinecantley@techhelp.org.

TechHelp Welcomes New Student Employees to NPD Lab @ Boise State

Above, TechHelp Student Employee, Dylan Rolleigh (L),  works on an NPD project while Lab Manager, Blaise Lawless, familiarizes a visitor with lab services.

For the past 20 years, a steady stream of highly talented TechHelp student employees have helped Idaho inventors bring their ideas to life at the New Product Development Lab in the Boise State College of Engineering. We are always sad to say farewell but glad to see the students graduate and move on to gainful employment.  Dan Brown, Jillian Walin, and Isaac Trussell recently graduated on to solid positions as mechanical engineers with firms in the Treasure Valley. Dan and Jillian joined other NPD alums at SGW Design Works while Isaac headed to Star, Idaho to work for Franklin Sensors.

As Spring returns to Idaho, we give a warm welcome to the newest members of the NPD Lab Team. Caleb Picklesimer and Jordan Lundgren will join the existing lab team of Dylan Rolleigh and Blaise Lawless in providing design, engineering and prototyping services to Idaho clients.
