Waitsfield Elementary School Rocks!

March 14, 2019
While the parking lot looks a little different now due to snow, the rules still apply: PLEASE do not pull in front of the entrance and drop off children. With other cars trying to pull in, this creates an unsafe situation.        If you intend to drop off, please turn to the left (north, where the buses go). As you know, we have limited parking and the lot can be tricky to navigate. I strongly encourage using the NORTH side of the lot for drop off.  Thank you for helping us keep our kids safe!

A good time was had by all at Mad River Glen this past Wednesday. Keep the snow coming (at least on Tuesdays, followed by sun on Wednesday, please!)

Dear Friends and Families,
Next week is set aside for family conferences. These conferences are an opportunity to reflect on the growth that students have made over the past year, particularly focusing on the goals that were set at the fall conferences. Students in kindergarten and up are expected to join the first part of the conference; it is important that they are part of the conversation about reflecting on this growth and setting goals for the remainder of the year.
Once again, there will be childcare provided by the PTA for siblings and for children to join if families would like a few minutes alone with their child's teacher.
Please keep in mind that conferences allow just an opportunity to meet with your child's primary teacher. If you have questions or would like to talk with another teacher, please reach out by phone or email. We greatly value our connection with families as an important way to support students' growth; thank you for making the time for this important connection. Thank you also for respecting our conference schedule; it is challenging to hold 144 conferences and keep our regular school business going too and we appreciate you fitting into the times we make available.

Respectfully, Kaiya

Once again the Waitsfield PTA and Bear Pond Books are bringing a fantastic selection of books to this year's book fair. There is something for everyone with a wonderful array of picture books and novels. Students and families can choose from an assortment of graphic novels, early readers, and nonfiction titles. Proceeds from the book sale directly benefit the school library, which means its a win-win for all of us!

These gatherings are open to all members of the community, regardless of age, experience or background. Harwood students who are experienced in leading Socratic Dialogues will facilitate the discussions.  Refreshments will be served!  For more information contact Kathy Cadwell at kcadwell@wwsu.org or Judi Byron, judi@waterburypubliclibrary.com or Megan Reed, HUHS librarian at mreed@wwsu.org

Mad Valley Runners 2019 Begins Soon!

Once again we invite parents and children to join us on Monday and Wednesday afternoons during April and May for a fun running experience on local trails.  We have arrangements for the kids to travel by bus from Waitsfield School to the Mad River Path trailhead at Meadow Road. There will also be a bus returning to Waitsfield School in time for a 4pm pickup by parents.

Our culminating event features a 2 mile run at Blueberry Lake in Warren where the  kids and their families enjoy refreshments and awards as well as fun in the lake as weather allows.

Last year well over 30 kids in grades 3-6 participated as well as several parents, school staff and community volunteers.  The success of the group depends on adult volunteers to run and walk with the kids. Please consider joining the fun!

The Waitsfield PTA is generously helping  fund this program. If possible we request that families wishing to participate include a $20  donation with their registration form for each child. Checks should be made payable to The Waitsfield PTA. If this poses a hardship, we will cover your costs-- please don't let it stop you from joining. Your donation will help buy a  good quality running shirt as well as snacks for our run days. Sweatshirts will also be available for purchase.

To request a form please email Joe Robinson.  jrobinson@huusd.org
