In yesterday’s Chumash, we learned about the Korban Chatas brought by a Kohen Gadol, the Sanhedrin, or a king. Today we learn about the Korban Chatas brought by a regular person who did an aveira by mistake. If a person does an aveira by mistake, he brings a Korban Chatas. He can bring a goat or a sheep for this korban. Hashem tells Moshe Rabbeinu how this korban is brought, and how it brings forgiveness for the person. If a person does certain kinds of aveiros (like eating from a korban when he didn’t realize he was tomei) he needs to bring a different kind of Korban Chatas, a Korban Oleh Veyored. This kind of korban gets bigger (oleh) or smaller (yored) depending on how much the person can afford. It can be a sheep or a goat, or two birds. If he brings two birds, one of them is brought on the Mizbeiach as a Korban Chatas and the other is burned completely on the Mizbeiach as an Olah. In tomorrow’s Chumash, we see what a person should do if he can’t even afford to bring birds as a Korban Oleh Veyored. |

Before Kapitel Mem-Ches (like for most kapitelach) there are a few words that tell us what the kapitel is about. Here, they tell us that this kapitel is about when Moshiach will come — how beautiful Yerushalayim will be, and how we will bring the korbanos and see all of the things the Neviim told us will happen when he comes. |

This Gashmius world is called “tachtonim,” the lowest part, because Hashem hides here the most. But this is the main reason why Hashem made the WHOLE world, even all of the Ruchnius worlds! As you go through the different Ruchnius worlds, Hashem is hiding more and more, until we get to the lowest part — right here — where Hashem is completely hiding. Since we can’t see Hashem, things sometimes look confusing, or even not good. So of course, the hardest place to do mitzvos is here — and that’s why it gives Hashem so much nachas! In the Ruchnius worlds, they feel Hashem, so they praise Hashem and feel close to Him. But Hashem wants that even here where we CAN’T feel Hashem, we should break our Yetzer Hara and do what Hashem wants anyway. That brings Hashem a special nachas ruach, and that makes Hashem’s light shine into the world, so He feels comfortable and does not need to be hidden! |

We learned in Tanya that this world is called Tachtonim, the lowest part, because Hashem is most hidden here. This can make the world confusing, and many times it looks like things aren’t going right. When this happens, it can make a person upset! Many times, he will groan or sigh. In Yiddish, this is called a krechtz, or an anacha in Hebrew. Groaning about the fact that something needs to change is an important part of avodah, like we learn in a different Hayom Yom. (Do you know where?) But there is something MUCH more important to do! The Rebbe Rashab writes a letter to a Yid who was upset about something that wasn’t going right, and was krechtzing about it. The Rebbe Rashab tells him that it is better to do one peulah than to groan a thousand times! No matter what happens to us, and no matter how we feel, Hashem is always there. Torah and mitzvos have a tremendous koach, and they never change! So when we stop krechtzing and work on doing what we’re supposed to, Hashem will definitely help us. |

Today’s mitzvah is the same one as yesterday: (Mitzvas Asei #107) When a neshama leaves a body, the body becomes Tomei. Someone who touches or is in the same house as the body gets some of this Tumah too, called Tumas Meis. There are many halachos about what a person who has this kind of Tumah is not allowed to do, and how he can become Tahor again. Today’s mitzvah is to follow all of these halachos! |
||
|
||
In today’s Rambam, Perakim Vov, Zayin, and Ches, we learn more about Tumah. The Rambam writes about which kinds of things can become Tomei. One halacha is that anything from the sea, like a fish, can’t become Tomei. |

In today’s Rambam, we learn the last Perek of Me’ilah — which is also the last perek of the entire Sefer Avodah! We learn about people who are working using Hekdesh, like farmers, builders, or Kohanim. We learn that even these people need to treat the hekdesh with special kavod! The Rambam finishes by reminding us that we need to do mitzvos carefully, even if they are chukim — mitzvos we don’t understand! With that halacha, we finished the eighth Sefer in Rambam! |

It is a minhag of Yidden that we dress up on Purim, especially children! One of the reasons we dress up is to remind ourselves about how Hashem was “hiding” in the neis of Purim. It is such an important minhag that boys are even allowed to dress up as girls, which is usually asur (“Lo Silbash”)! Of course, we still need to keep the halachos of tznius. If someone is not wearing a Purim costume, he should wear Shabbos clothes on Purim. The Rebbe asked that Yiddishe kinderlach should NOT dress up like Haman, or any other rasha. One year, the Rebbe said that many children wear crowns on Purim, and “Tavo Aleihem Bracha!” (Those who do it are blessed.) See Halachos Uminhagei Chabad p. 166 |

When a Yid goes to sleep, the neshama goes up to Hashem to get chayus for the next day. In the morning, Hashem gives the person back his neshama. But the neshama can’t shine in the guf until the person davens! The guf is too grob (coarse) for the neshama to be able to express itself. Davening is how a neshama connects to Hashem WHILE it is in the guf. It makes the person more aidel, and able to feel the neshama. There is a posuk in Yeshaya that says, “Chidlu Lachem Min Ha’Adam Asher Neshama Be’Apo, Ki Bameh Nechshav Hu?” “Separate yourself from a person whose neshama is in his nostrils, because what is he worth?” The Gemara explains this posuk, saying that the word “Bameh” (what is he worth), can be read as “Bamah,” a Mizbeiach for Avodah Zarah! Chassidus explains that before a person davens, his neshama is still “be’apo,” in his nostrils. It hasn’t spread out into the whole body, so that the person can feel it and express it. This kind of person is like a bamah! Just like a bamah is a big Mizbeiach that sticks out, a person who hasn’t davened yet doesn’t feel Hashem, he feels like he is very important by himself! That’s why the FIRST avodah of the day has to be for a Yid to connect to Hashem through davening. He needs to right away wake up his neshama and spread it throughout his guf, so he will be able to make the right kinds of decisions all day, to use the Gashmius to serve Hashem! (Davening is like a cup of coffee for the neshama!) Based on the maamar Lecha Dodi 5689, said at the Rebbe and Rebbetzin’s chasuna; and Lecha Dodi 5714 |

On Purim, we add a special part to davening and bentching, called “Ve’Al Hanisim.” It has a paragraph that starts “Bimei Mordechai,” which talks about the incredible nissim Hashem did for us at the time of Purim! In Shemoneh Esrei, we say Ve’Al Hanisim after the paragraph that starts Modim, and in bentching it is after the paragraph of Nodeh. (Both of these are the paragraphs where we thank Hashem, hoda’ah!) If a person forgets to say Ve’Al Hanisim in Shemoneh Esrei, he only goes back to say it if he realized right away, before saying Hashem’s name in the bracha right after. If a person forgets during bentching, if he realizes before saying Hashem’s name in the bracha at the end of the next paragraph, he should go back and say Ve’Al Hanisim. If he realizes after that, he should add a special Horachaman in the place we add for Shabbos and Yom Tov (“Horachaman Hu Yaaseh Lanu Nisim Kemo She’asa La’avoseinu Bayomim Haheim Bizman Hazeh”), say Bimei Mordechai, and then go back to “Horachaman Hu Yezakeinu Liyemos HaMoshiach.” See Shevach Hamoadim p. 142, Chabad.org/1456808 |

This week in shul, we lein Parshas Zachor! In this part of the Torah, we learn the mitzvah to remember (“Zachor”) what Amalek did to the Yidden. We always lein this on the Shabbos before Purim, when Haman, who comes from Amalek, tried to destroy the Yidden. But why is it important to remember Amalek if we can’t do the mitzvah to destroy Amalek? The Torah gives us many conditions before we can keep this mitzvah, and we will only be able to do it when Hashem makes these conditions possible, when Moshiach comes! So why do we need to remember Amalek now? The answer is that the same thing is true with all of the things we do to bring Moshiach: Even though the actual Geulah is in Hashem’s hands, when we do our part with the Ruchnius, of learning Torah and doing mitzvos, then Hashem will do HIS part and will bring the Geulah in Gashmius too! The same is with the war with Amalek: By us fighting the Ruchnius war against Amalek, we are doing our part, and then Hashem will do His part and let us destroy Amalek in Gashmius too!
