Following up from our Fall Grant cycle, BABT is pleased to have funded several more projects around the Bay Area.

Congratulations to:

• San Mateo County Parks Foundation - Funds to assist with the Towne Creek Bridge replacement in Pescadero Creek County Park.

• NCEFT - Funding for trail building. The construction will allow for the Adaptive Riding clients to go out on the trail at NCEFT's facility in Woodside.
Since 2000, BABT has helped preserve and maintain parks and public open space, equestrian facilities, trails and trailheads by awarding approximately $330,000 in grants to land trusts, agencies and/or equestrian organizations.
Stables at Risk
Mar Vista Stables, Daly City: A group has formed to maintain the current use of this land for horses and horseback riding. They are “advocating for preservation of this land as open space and raising funds to purchase the land and rehabilitate Mar Vista Stables and Palo Mar Stables in order to continue outdoor education and public horse back riding programs, hiking and clinics.”  Learn more and join their effort, here is how you can help

Stewart Horse Camp, Point Reyes: The NPS is actively working on the paperwork and details for a 2019 short-term authorization/contract for operation. Due to weather conditions, in addition to this ongoing process, the camp will not open in April. It is anticipated the camp will open in May. A press release will be forthcoming soon, stay tuned!

Lakeview Stables, San Jose: The future is uncertain - we will keep you up to date via Facebook.

Equine Land Conservation Resource (ELCR)
The ELCR Advisory Committee had a meeting in March, BABT's President, Lyndall Erb is part of this committee. This is a brief report on the meeting. ELCR is making some changes to be more helpful to smaller local groups such as BABT. They are updating some of their guides, for example the guide Getting Organized which helps groups create an organization to keep and develop trails is being expanded beyond just trails. They plan to help groups with fundraising and building coalitions. The committee will be taking part in reaching out to groups and helping ELCR expand their outreach. A recent survey of horse groups and organizations has helped ELCR see where help is needed and what groups are being successful. If you are interested in learning more about ELCR and its mission contact Lyndall.
