Women's soccer players truly are badass.

A recent article in Slate revealed that the USWNT is suing their employer US Soccer (AKA "the federation") for sex-based discrimination. On a happier note, @FIFAWWC (the official FIFA account for the Women's World Cup) just tweeted to their 683K followers, "Sending our love and congratulations to @alikrieger & @Ashlyn_Harris." Turns out current USWNT player Harris and former national team star Krieger announced their engagement in People. Same, @FIFAWWC. Same.

On to a few updates closer to home:
  • The Road to Canada, Girls of Summer book 4, is now available in paperback and eBook! One Amazon reviewer says, "Book four is probably my favorite so far in the series... I literally can’t wait for Book 5 (and more?)!"
  • Girls of Summer, book 5, is on track for an early summer release. As previously mentioned, I'll bundle books 4 & 5 as a box set for those who would prefer to read one very long novel. And yes, book 5 will feature the 2015 World Cup--finally!
  • Other writerly things: I recently sat down with fellow lesfic author Erica Lee for an interview about all things Girls of Summer. I also penned a guest blog post for Women and Words on "The Power of Romantic Fiction." On Homodramatica, my own blog, I posted an essay about the time my 8-year-old's teacher told her class that the word "queer" means "weird." No, seriously.
  • Crowdfunding: At the suggestion of a reader, I started a Patreon account to help crowdfund my future writing. This includes additional books in the Girls of Summer series, audio books for my existing titles, and LGBTQ-inclusive versions of public domain classics (like Gay Pride & Prejudice). Monthly pledge amounts range from $1 upward, and any amount is much appreciated. Those who pledge $3 or more per month will receive regular behind-the-scenes updates like my first patron-only post, Fact vs. Fiction in the Girls of Summer: Part 1which elaborates on one of Erica's interview questions: "Did you base any of your characters off of real USWNT players?"

The Girls of Summer series actually arose from the question, "What if two women on the USWNT fell in love?" As many of you know, my wife and I met playing soccer in college. This week's announcement in People only reinforces that it is indeed possible for two female soccer players to find their very own happily ever after.

Happy reading and soccer viewing-
