Stand Against Hatred Today:
Friday Prayers and Vigil

March 15, 2019

Dear Friends,

Today is an incredibly difficult day. Our hearts are broken as we mourn the murders of at least 49 Muslims in Christchurch, New Zealand, attacked in their mosques at Friday Prayers by a white supremacist terrorist. We extend our condolences to the families of the victims and their community and we offer our support to everyone as we all try to grapple with the harsh reality of hatred and violence that affects us all, even in our places of worship.

To honor the lives we have lost, the wounded and to show our solidarity, the entire university community is invited to Friday prayers (at either 12:25-12:50 & 1:25-2:00 p.m.) in the CIRCLE Sanctuary (Old Union, 3rd Floor) and a vigil today from 2:00-3:00 p.m. in the Old Union Courtyard following Friday Prayers. This will be a chance for us all to come together, reflect, mourn, and to hear each other's voices.  If you would like to speak at the vigil, please let us know by emailing sughra@stanford.edu.

After the vigil, everyone is invited to come to the Markaz for support and fellowship.

We respond to hatred with love and we will do this together with our Stanford family during Friday prayers and the vigil immediately afterwards.

With love,

Muslim students of Stanford, the Office for Religious Life and the Markaz
