The great St. Patrick's Day Parade in Manhattan is being held this year on Saturday March 16th, but there is no need to venture into the city to enjoy the thrilling sounds of bagpipes and marching bands. Hopefully you've already enjoyed one of the many St. Pat's parades held across Long Island, but if not there are plenty more beginning this weekend and running through the end of the month. Following is a list of upcoming parades along with LIBeerGuide's suggestions for local pubs or breweries near each parade to quench your thirst with a perfect pint.
PARADES AND PUBS
March 16 -- St. James -- the 35th annual parade sponsored by the St. James Chamber of Commerce will step off along Lake Avenue from Woodlawn to Railroad Aves beginning at 1 pm. The 2019 Grand Marshal is longtime St. James resident and active community member Denise Davis, St. James Public House will be hosting a parade party from 1-7 pm with a special St. Patrick's menu and special prices on Guinness drafts.
March 17 -- Miller Place-Rocky Point -- the 69th annual Friends of St. Patrick parade will begin at 1 pm along Harrison Ave. in Miller Place and end at North Country Road in Rocky Point. The parade will be led by Grand Marshal John McNamara, a longtime resident of Rocky Point who is very active in the community. After the parade Rocky Point Ale House will have food and drink specials and Irish music to continue the celebration.
March 17 -- Glen Cove -- sponsored by the Glen Cove Hibernians, the 31st annual parade will step off at 1 pm led by Grand Marshal Patrick "Patsy" Furlong, a longtime Hibernians member. The parade finishes at St. Patrick's Church where a family-friendly post-parade party is held. For more adult fun, Irish pub Pat's Place will have Guinness on tap and live music including bagpipers.
March 17 -- Wantagh -- this South Shore hamlet will hold its inaugural St. Patrick's Day Parade sponsored by the Wantagh Chamber of Commerce. The parade will step off at 2 pm from Wantagh High School and march south on Wantagh Ave. to Railroad Ave. next to the LIRR station at Sunrise Highway. The Grand Marshal of the parade is John Murray, Jr., owner of Mulcahy's Pub and Concert Hall, the popular live music venue located on Railroad Ave. There are several fine pubs on Railroad Ave. to enjoy a pint after the parade, including Corry's Ale House with 20 beers on tap.

March 17 -- Patchogue -- The celebration on Main Street begins with the "May the Road Rise to Meet Ye 5K" at 11:55 am, followed by the parade with marching bands, bagpipes and floats. Grand Marshal of this year's parade is Paula Murphy, chair of the Greater Patchogue Foundation's Beautification Committee. After the parade, the festivities will continue at Patchogue's many pubs and breweries, including brewpub BrickHouse Brewery with Irish food specials and James Joyce Irish Pub & Eatery, with 20 taps and Patchogue's best selection of Irish whiskies.
March 23 -- Hampton Bays -- sponsored by the Michael Collins Division 11 of the Hibernians, the 15th annual parade will step off at 11 am. The Grand Marshal this year is Steve Lemanski, president of the Hibernians division and active member of the parade committee. Hampton Bays has many popular bars and waterfront restaurauts, but after the parade the cozy Irish pub Buckley's Inn Between is a great place to warm up with a pint and some hearty Irish fare.
March 23 -- Rockville Centre -- the day begins with 9 am mass at St. Agnes Cathedral and the 23rd annual parade steps off at noon led by Grand Marshal Dr. Drew Bogner, president of local Molloy College. The Rockville Centre parade is known as "the parade that cares and shares" and raises funds every year for three non-profit organizations. This year's recipients are The Opening Word literacy program on Long Island, The HEARTest Yard children's medical charity and The New York Irish Center in Queens. After the parade, the most authentic Irish pub to visit in Rockville Centre is Monaghan's, owned and run by Niall and Kathleen Gunn, natives of County Monaghan, Ireland.
March 24 -- Montauk -- sponsored by the Montauk Friends of Erin, the parade has grown to become New York State's second largest St. Pat's parade with over 40,000 spectators and supporters. The day begins at 10 am with the Montauk Chamber of Commerce serving hot soup on the village green. The 57th annual parade kicks off at noon and the Grand Marshal this year is Gordon Ryan, a local attorney who has been active in the community for 40 years. After the parade the whole village will be buzzing, so if you're looking for someplace quiet to enjoy a pint and some pub grub, check out O'Murphy's Restaurant & Pub located northeast of downtown near Gosman's Dock.
March 24 -- Bayport-Blue Point -- the 29th annual parade was rescheduled from March 10 and parades eastward on Montauk Highway from Bayport to Blue Point beginning at 11 am. The 2019 Grand Marshal is Lenore Riger-Prezioso of the Bayport-Blue Point Chamber of Commerce. Grey Horse Tavern in Bayport, a popular farm-to-table restaurant located in a landmark building that has housed a tavern since 1868, will hold its annual St. Patrick's Parade party with live music and a food truck.
March 24 -- Ronkonkoma -- the 29th annual parade stepping off at 2 pm will be led by Grand Marshal Maureen Ennis, a Ronkonkoma resident best known for her charitable work with the New York Giving Dolls. Flanagan's Pub on Hawkins Ave. is a strong supporter of the parade and will be open for lunch at 11 am serving traditional Irish classics including corned beef, fish & chips and shepherd's pie.
March 30 -- Jamesport -- sponsored by the East End Emerald Society, the 6th annual parade will step off at 1 pm led by Grand Marshal Joseph Grattan Sr., former chief of police. After the parade a great place to visit for a pint is Jamesport Farm Brewery, which makes a delicious sweet milk stout, La Leche De Madre.
