What Grows On in RI lists events from dozens of RI environment-related groups, and more than one thousand people get this newsletter. No one wants to be on dozens of email lists and see everything. Everybody has different interests. So that makes this general newsletter

EVENTS BY TYPE

EVENTS BY TOPIC

*Each week I star the subcalendars that a lot of folks probably would want. The more stars, the more there is of interest to more Rhode Islanders. For instance, some weeks there are no films or conferences, but right now there are some films to see and several conferences with open registration. As Earth Day approaches, the Cleanups calendar will have lots of stars!

The Ongoing Calendar ...

... lists events that are months-long or many consecutive days or occurring frequently in irregular patterns. They would overwhelm the main calendar, so they are separate.

The Ongoing Events Calendar now has a link to the Save the Bay Cleanups page. There are lots of opportunities to participate between now and August. More are added weekly. There's no way to easily load these into the Calendar so check out the Save the Bay website for details through this link.

  • Seal Tours
  • Save the Bay Cleanups
  • Art Exhibits - at Brown, Audubon, Newport
  • RI's Recreational Resources Survey
  • Nature Center & Aquarium Winter Hours

Did You Know?

Many of the hearings and other public meetings are recorded - either in audio or video. If we are concerned about an issue or how our tax dollars are spent, it's important for more of us to watch what our public officials are doing.

Add More Events!

Every worthwhile event is not in this Calendar (yet!) Any event about the environment of interest to Rhode Islanders can be in What Grows On in RI. See the Scoop on the Scope for guidelines.

Citizens, Let Your Voice Be Heard!

The Hearings Calendar lists a wide range of ways to influence legislation, regulation, and other government activity in Rhode Island. At the moment, here are some options:
  • RI General Assembly committees are holding hearings frequently through early June. Environment-related hearings are in the Calendar.
  • Three Providence Water Supply Community Meetings in March. Sixty percent of Rhode Islanders get their water from the Scituate Reservoir. Hear about the legislation submitted this week in the General Assembly concerning future plans to monetize this resource.
  • ****new! PVD Great Streets Public Meetings

Comment periods are also listed in the Ongoing Calendar.

How to Use the Calendar

Do you browse the library catalog to borrow books from the library? The Calendar is actually designed like the library catalog, only instead of a simple search box, the listings are exposed. But you can use the search aids in the Calendar to limit what you see. There's a
  • Keyword search
  • Subject (Category) search
  • Author (Event organizer) search
Just like the library catalog.

Plus some other searches, such as
  • Audience (children, teens, professional, etc.)
  • Location
  • Distance from a zip code
Search for what you like or click the buttons in this newsletter to find what interests you.
Eco-Depots in the Cleanups Calendar

Eco-Depots are in the Calendar

Household hazardous waste can be disposed of for free at one of the 40 or so Eco-Depots held throughout the year. Several are in local cities and towns, making it unnecessary to pack an overnight bad for a trek to Johnston from the hinterlands.

Thank you to RIRRC for adding the Eco-Depots to the Calendar
FUNdraisers!
Pawtucket Winter Farmers Market

Sales

Winter Farmer's Markets in RI are in Middletown, North Kingstown, Bristol, Pawtucket, and South Kingstown on Saturdays.

The News on ProvGardener is from dozens of mostly RI news sources.

Some of it is especially for Rhode Islanders and some of it would interest anyone.

I'm still way behind in indexing the news. You can see the raw feed here (scroll down) as it comes in, but when it's sorted, it's much easier to track.
