Legal situation: Tuesday is the due date for Anas Abdin to submit proof the creators of Star Trek: Discovery had access to his game, Tardigrades, prior to or during development of the show. His case falls flat without that evidence.

1. Peters' YouTube Collaboration with Alleged Anti-Woman, Racist GamerGater

We've learned more: We reported yesterday that Axanar producer Alec Peters is starting a collaborative livecast Monday with some well known YouTubers.
  • Allegations of Racism, Misogyny: Matt Jarbo of the YouTube channel 3 Buck Theater, is also MundaneMatt, well known online for his participation in the GamerGate controversy, along with allegedly anti-woman and racist remarks.
  • GamerGater: A 2014 profile on Medium included Jarbo among “The Bad Apples of #GamerGate,” described as a “significant number of GamerGate supporters [who] have histories of harassment, hatred and abuse. He's described there this way:

“@MundaneMatt consistently expresses public viewpoints that are overwhelmingly negative and derogatory to the female gender.”
Why it matters: In his Axanar: Confidential announcement, Peters doesn't reconcile his avowed pro-woman views with Jarbo's alleged negative stance on women and diversity.
  • That doesn't jibe with Peters' online crusade to get people to condemn his rival, Star Trek Continues star and anime actor Vic Mignogna, for his alleged sexual misconduct.
  • No #MeToo supporter? In a now-deleted YouTube video, Peters attacks people who refuse to subscribe to the #MeToo movement's principle of always believing women victims of sexual harassment.

2. Former Axanar Director Robert Burnett Finally Served Papers in Lawsuit Filed by Alec Peters

Justice served? It's taken since February 18 when producer Alec Peters filed his lawsuit against his former colleague, Robert Meyer Burnett, but sources tell us the former Axanar director has finally been served legal papers.
  • Georgia case, California resident: The 25-day delay appears to stem from Peters filing suit in Georgia, where he lives, while Burnett resides in California.
  • 30-day countdown: Serving the summons on Burnett starts the clock ticking for him to file a reply in the required Georgia court.
  • Shot across the bow: Since AxaMonitor made a copy of Peters' legal complaint publicly available, Burnett’s attorney has already replied to Peters’ legal threats.
  • Looming countersuit: Burnett's lawyer took aim at Peters' "unconscionably one-sided" settlement offer and alleged defamation of his client. A lawsuit from Burnett alleging employment law problems by Peters may also be looming.
  • Despite the warning from Burnett's attorney, Peters continued to badmouth his former friend, still publicly stating Burnett stole Axanar footage and equipment.
The bottom line: Peters' lawsuit and initial settlement offer are long on threats but short on evidence of any of its claims. Then there's the issue of how Peters justifies suing an out-of-state resident in a Georgia court over allegations of wrongdoing that entirely occurred in California.

Short Takes: Ares Studios' limping Patreon effort. Rescheduled 'Reel Trek.' Monitoring the Trek Monitors.

Patreon continues limping along: With no Reel Trek broadcast last night by Alec Peters to juice up donations to his Patreon effort to get fans pay his warehouse rent, the campaign notched just one more donor, growing to 208.
  • Continued slide: Even with a net increase in monthly pledges yesterday of $18, the average patron and donation growth each day continues to slide.
  • Average daily patron growth dropped another tenth of a point, from 3.8 to 3.7.
  • Average daily donation growth dropped by 29 cents to $33.64. At the beginning of March, that average stood at $40.95, a decline of nearly 18 percent.
Two week break for Reel Trek? Viewers tuning in last night for Axanar producer Alec Peters' weekly Reel Trek show were greeted with an announcement that the show was postponed for two weeks, to March 29.
  • No explanation appeared on the YouTube page set up for Friday's show.
  • Nevertheless, upcoming on Monday (usually the day for Axanar: Confidential) is the premiere of Peters' new collaborative show with other YouTubers.
  • Postponing Axanar: Confidential, too? With this new show debuting March 18, does that mean the Axanar show, too, gets postponed? To when? And will the new show move to its own time slot?
Why it matters: Because of Peters' growing reliance on YouTube superchat donations to supplement Patreon proceeds to pay his warehouse rent, every skipped show is a loss in his pocketbook.
Check it out: The anonymous writer who writes at the Monitoring the Trek Monitors blog continues his refreshing, almost daily take on the ongoing battles between some Axanar supporters and critics. His sign-off? "Be good to each other." Good advice.
  • Another breath of fresh air in online debate about Axanar is the The ACTUAL Truth about Axanar and AxaMonitor group on Facebook. People there actually talk to one another, though some Axa-folk have stormed off. The look and feel is a bit quirky but nonetheless remains welcoming.

Copyright infringement dept.: We like to cover various aspects of copyright law, especially artistic infringement. The latest? Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran faces his third copyright accusation over one of his songs. This time it's "Thinking Out Loud." The writer of many of Marvin Gaye's hits says it's a blatant rip-off of "Let's Get it On." The case is set for a September 11 court date. From cheatsheet.com.
