MEETING DATE CHANGE
………………………………………

We have moved our monthly meeting to March 27th to avoid the Larimer County Democrats meeting and PSD spring break. Indivisible is rolling out its strategy for the 2020 primaries.  Part of the strategy is to ensure a healthy primary that produces a strong candidate. Indivisible will be pushing candidates to run bold, issue-driven campaigns and engage directly with grassroots groups such as IndivisibleNOCO. At our meeting we will discuss what a healthy primary means for IndivisibleNOCO, what we want to see emphasized in a party platform, and how we advocate for our favored candidates.

STATE ACTIONS
………………………………………

Colorado SB19-181, the Oil and Gas Reform Bill, has passed the committee process and will be heard by the full Senate TUESDAY March March 12. CALL YOUR STATE SENATOR TUESDAY MORNING and express your support for this bill. It’s an important step forward in prioritizing the health and safety of Coloradans over profits for the oil and gas industry.

Colorado HB19-1032  - Comprehensive Human Sexuality Education (known as the “Sex Ed bill”) is in the Senate Appropriations Committee.  If your Senator is on the Senate Appropriations Committee, please call and register your support for the bill. Northern Colorado Senators on the Appropriations Committee are Jerry Sonnenberg (R,SD1) and Rob Woodward (R,SD15). You can learn more about the bill from this fact sheet from the ACLU and Planned Parenthood and read what the NYT has to say about sex ed in CO.

Colorado HB19-1177 Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPO) Has been assigned to the Senate State, Veterans & Military Affairs Committee, which will hold hearings this Friday, March 15.  Two Northern Colorado Senators - Vicki Marble and Jerry Sonnenberg - are on the committee.  If either is your senator, please call and register your support for the bill. If you have time, try to stop by the Capitol and testify in person why you support the bill.  The NRA is throwing its weight into defeating this very important bill that has the support of law enforcement leadership in Colorado. Let’s show the NRA that money cannot always stop sensible gun laws.

HR1 UPDATE
………………………………………

HR1, the strongest democracy reform legislation in a generation, passed the House last week.  Not a single republican voted for the bill. However, Representative Joe Neguse from CD2 did so give him a call and thank him.  Let’s let him know that we appreciate him standing up for democracy! While you are at it, congratulate him for winning the 2019 Colorado democrat of the year award.

ENDING TRUMP'S FAKE NATIONAL EMERGENCY

………………………………………

The Senate is expected to vote this week on the resolution to declare an end to Trump's fake national emergency at the southern border. While it appears it has enough votes in the Senate to pass, we need even more senators and representatives to support it because we can expect Trump to veto it. Call Senator Gardner and tell him you want him to vote for the resolution.  Even though we know he will vote for the resolution, call Senator Bennet as well to register your support. Senators tally the calls for and against an issue, so call Senator Bennet would like to know that he has support for the bill.

NEGUSE AWARD
………………………………………

On November 9th, Rep. Joe Neguse was honored as the Colorado Democratic Party Democrat of the Year. Take a minute to call his staff and congratulate him, or tweet a message.
