Hello,

Derbyshire Dales CVS Email Newsletter

The Escape Project, which DDCVS has run since 2011, will come to an end in March 2019. In that time, it has had three hundred referrals, and has worked with people who live in supported housing, or live independently with additional help. Although we are sorry to see the project end, we are pleased that some elements of the project will continue to be delivered by other agencies.

We would like to thank everyone who has been involved in Escape over the last few years for their help and encouragement. Each year we have enjoyed the crafty skills of Escape members on the CVS Christmas tree and the Flowers in the Field garden at Darley Dale has been a particular highlight. The funding that has supported Escape will now be refocused on DDCVS’s work as a partner in the Regeneration Project on Hurst Farm estate in Matlock.

Derbyshire Dales District Council has once again pledged its support for this year’s Great British Spring Clean, run by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.

The campaign, which runs from March 22nd to April 23rd, will see up to half a million people taking action to clean up streets, parks and beaches across the country.

The Great British Spring Clean brings together individuals, community organisations, businesses and councils to make a difference to the environment on our doorstep and in 2018 around 370,000 #LitterHeroes collected more than 630,000 bags of rubbish.

Keep Britain Tidy Chief Executive Allison Ogden-Newton said: “The Great British Spring Clean is an opportunity for the millions of people who care about the environment on their doorstep to do something positive that will make a visible difference.

“We are delighted that Derbyshire Dales District Council is supporting this year’s campaign and would like to thank them for their support.

“Without councils across the country giving the campaign their backing, our volunteers would not be able to do the incredible job they do.”

A council spokesperson said: ‘We are delighted to be supporting the Great British Spring Clean and we encourage as many groups, individuals, organisations and schools as possible to take part’.

Derbyshire Dales District Council is encouraging groups and individuals who want to ‘do their bit’ to help clear up the litter that blights our streets and parks.  The council can offer support by providing equipment such as bags and litter pickers and collection of the bags of rubbish after your event.

Please register your event, by 15th April, at www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/GBSpringClean  Telephone 01629 761302 / 761176.

A group of skilled volunteers is turning back the clock in Eyam by offering a repair service to Peak District residents – saving money and reducing needless rubbish.

Organiser Colin Shaw got the idea for Eyam Repair Cafe after visiting the Chesterfield branch of what is now a worldwide network.

The Eyam Repair Cafe opens on the second Saturday of each month in the Eyam Church Centre.

The first event took place in February with a team of eight qualified repairers on hand. They accepted 59 items and managed to repair and mend 33 of them – including 20 electrical pieces and 8 garments.

The next Repair Cafe takes place at the Church Centre on Church Street, Eyam on April 13th from 10.00 until 2.00.

Colin says, ‘Anyone bringing items for repair just needs to turn up on the day and relax with a cuppa whilst their things are assessed and hopefully fixed!’ says Colin. ‘There is no charge but donations are welcome in support of the cafe’s work.’

Two additional sewers have agreed to help at the next session but more recruits are welcome. Anyone with skills to share can contact Colin on 01433 631685. For more information visit eyamrepaircafe.org.uk
