On November 14, The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) will lunch the inaugural Legacy Partnership Giving Award at the National Day of Philanthropy Celebration (NDP). The Mid-America Charitable Gift Planners is proud to partner with AFP to make this unique award in the Kansas City area a reality!
Before March 31, please submit your “Intent to Nominate” by visiting the National Philanthropy Day page and selecting Excellence in Legacy Giving.
The winning selection will be based on celebrating the partnership of everyone involved in a Legacy Gift! This includes our charitable partners, donors and all of the allied professionals! Anyone can nominate!

This month we will explore indicators of a potential lack of donor mental capacity, discuss the critical role professional advisors can play in avoiding allegations of undue influence, and prepare you to respond when family members challenge a donor’s intent after the donor is no longer capable of providing input.
Learning Objectives
Recognize the characteristics that indicate a donor may lack mental capacity, as well as the signs of aging that are not relevant to legal capacity.
Create collaborative relationships with professional advisors and development colleagues to prevent issues of undue influence and legal capacity from arising.
Develop stewardship plans to work with donors and their families in case where incapacity arises AFTER the planned gift is already in place.
