This week in celebration of National Nutrition Month, Culinary & Wellness Services has been in classrooms, talking with students about the beautiful rainbow of fruits and vegetables. We also made roasted beet hummus--using student power and the bicycle blender. That's True Food Active Living in action! 
Calling all middle school student chefs! 
Apply to compete in the 5th annual Jr Iron Chef Competition!

Applications are now OPEN for the 5th annual MPS Junior Iron Chef Competition on Thursday, May 2nd! Encourage MPS 6th-8th grade students to grab a friend and apply to cook alongside some of Minneapolis' greatest chefs for a night. Selected students will be paired with local chefs to compete top-chef style for a panel of judges.

The City Is Ours: School-owned Bike Fleets and Biking Field Trips

Thinking about biking with students at a school?  Curious about all the student bikers you see on the streets and trails of Minneapolis? Whatever your reason, please join us at this workshop where Pillsbury Pedal Power’s Mark Trumper will tell the story of building and sustaining the award-winning Pedal Power bike program. The workshop will also include resources for biking with students of all ages from Culinary & Wellness Services including the fantastic new Walking and Biking Field Trip Guide. Everyone is invited. Waste in Place Training 
Thank you to all the fantastic Minneapolis Public Schools staff who attended the Waste In Place training on Wednesday. Thank you also to Keep America Beautiful and to our partners in the City of Minneapolis and Hennepin County for making it a great training. This training is part of implementing the True Food No Waste initiative.

Concerned about transportation’s impact on the climate?
How can we make our streets safer?
The Minneapolis Transportation Action Plan is a 10-year action plan to guide future planning, design, and implementation of transportation projects for all people in all the ways they move around. The plan will identify specific actions for the City and its partners to take to implement the transportation vision outlined in Minneapolis 2040. YOUR INPUT IS IMPORTANT. Please consider attending one of the many community meeting about this plan taking place across the city in April.

$1,000 Parent Grants | Action for Health Kids | Due April 5 
Parent-led Grants 
Parents: Here’s your chance to make your mark on school health! Apply for a $1,000 parent-led school grant that will provide funds and resources to revamp or introduce fitness or nutrition programs so that all students have access to healthy choices.

School Garden Grants | Jeffers Foundation | Due April 1

Looking to start a school garden at your school? Have an idea for how to expand or improve your existing school garden?

Jeffers Foundation is offering $500 grants for new and existing school gardens. Applications are due Monday, April 1, 2019.
