Mons 18 Mar-8 Apr, 10am-noon, 2-4pm or 7.30-9.30pm
WINDOWS INTO THE SOCIOLOGY OF RELIGION

Truro Cathedral, Old Cathedral School, St Luke's Room

If you were to begin by asking yourself ‘what impact does religion have on society’? Or, indeed offer the alternative question ‘what impact does society have on religion’ you will almost certainly find yourself dealing with issues raised in the discipline of the sociology of religion – defined as the study of the practices, social structures, historical backgrounds, universal themes and roles of religion in society. This brief introductory course (4 sessions) explores some of these things and ponders societal trends that effect the place of religion in our nation and our world today.
The course will run for four weeks on Mondays 18 & 25 March and 1 & 8 April in the usual time slots of 10am-12 noon, 2pm-4pm and 7.30pm-9.30pm, (choose one to suit you) and will be taught in the St Luke’s Room of the Old Cathedral School. The cost will be £15 per person (payable at first session).

PLAYFULLY SERIOUS
How Messy Churches create new space for faith

Rev Les Isaac is involved in bringing support to families in London who have lost young people. He feels keenly the need for us as God’s people to respond prayerfully and with whatever action we can,  to the current spate of knife crime, which shows no sign of easing off. He is working with other church leaders and organisations to hold a rally in Trafalgar Square on Saturday 6th April, to stir up people to care and respond,  and also to stand with bereaved families.
The attached prayer and Prayer Points are designed to help us all to respond to this ongoing situation. Feel free to circulate them to others, including  your church. It is crucial that as God’s people we call on Him for help.

Do you have passion for working with children, young people and families? Would you like to volunteer in a role that makes a lasting impact on people's lives? If yes, than the Wish Visitor may be the right role for you!
Make-A-Wish UK grants life-changing wishes to children with critical illnesses and since 1986, has turned the wishes of more than 13,000 seriously ill children into realities – creating memories to treasure forever, whatever the future may hold. You can now be part of our team as we're looking for wish visitors in Falmouth, Penryn or nearby. We are looking for friendly and reliable volunteers who have great listening skills and experience of working with families and children. You’ll be visiting children who have been referred to us, at a time that suits them - and helping them to unlock their wildest imagination to discover their One True Wish. The role is flexible and we ask the volunteers to commit to at least 3 visits a year. If you would like more information, please contact Joanna at People & Culture Team on 0118 304 2772 or email volunteering@makeawish.org.uk. We look forward to hearing from you!

An Early Day Motion, tabled by Crispin Blunt MP, is calling for an end to prayers in Parliament at the beginning of each day. The prayer is that MPs “lay aside all private interests, prejudices and partial affections” and strive for “the public welfare, peace and tranquility of the realm and for the uniting and knitting together of the hearts of all persons”. This prayer has been said daily by the Speaker’s chaplain before every sitting of the House of Commons since 1661. (The wording was updated in 1997).
A petition has been drawn up to keep the daily prayers:
https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/237423/
...and pray for the preservation of Christian prayer in the House of Commons, in keeping with the Christian foundations of our Parliament and government.
Please circulate this to your church congregation and Christian friends.
If 100,000 signatures are received this petition will be considered for debate in Parliament.
Pray for all Christian MPs, that they will stand strong on this issue and for the Lord to be honoured in Parliament.
