Though International Women's Day was last week, it's never a wrong time to celebrate women.

This issue kicks off with the women without who've contributed to UXBeginner.

  • Laura Sands joined recently to improve the content experience, including the UXB Facebook Group (say hello!)
  • Kristin Sinko has been contributing awesome articles like the worth of dropping $$$ on an NN/g conference
  • And last year, design writing apprentices like Robbin Acerga, Daljit Ahluwalia and Tara Lee York contributed amazing articles to the UXB Blog.

Damn inspiring. Check out this Women in Design report featuring trailblazers like Katja Cho, Karin Fong and Rachel Inman who each share their design philosophies. Fav from Debbie Millman: "“Courage is more important than confidence.”

"Sit down with a group of women in the creative industry and you are bound to hear stories of sexism." Kira Hodgson writes extensively about the female experience in creative industries, backed with many eye-opening stats, like how women who try to negotiate a higher salary are 3 times less likely to get a raise than their male counterparts.

Years of data from the American Time Use Survey were visualized into a compelling report, highlighting the day in the life of women vs men. Here's some commentary from FastCo: "More men cluster in the work area than in the household care cluster, which includes cleaning, laundry–and taking care of other family members...but even during non-work hours, household work falls heavily on women while some men spent their time on other things."

6 of the most influential women in UX today include the Elizabeth Churchill (Director of UX at Google) Indi Young (author of Mental Models) and many more. And here's another great site featuring women in design, with the option to nominate someone from your community.

Connecting with women in UX is easier than ever, especially since Ladies That UX has meetups around the world.
