Last April, Ithaca was the first city in New York to bring in a dockless bike share with the help of Lime. With 85,000+ rides and 15,000+ riders in and around Ithaca, we are amazed by the way the community has embraced bikeshare in both ridership and spirit. We've also been impressed with the local operations of the bikeshare system and the seamless rollout of Lime-E pedal assist bikes, which have proven to be very popular even in winter.
Recently, Lime proposed to add e-scooters to their local fleet in the City of Ithaca, and members of the City's Mobility, Accessibility, and Transportation Commission (MATCom) have provided reasonable guidelines for an e-scooter pilot project. Based on our experience with bikeshare and our observation of other cities that have e-scooters, we encourage the City to start an e-scooter pilot following the guidelines that MATCom proposed.
