Data Trends
Fertility Rate of U.S. Hispanic Women in Decline

A new report from the National Research Center on Hispanic Children & Families finds that while the fertility rate of all U.S. women has dropped, some of the largest declines of the past decade have been among Hispanic women.

“Hispanics are in essence catching up to their peers,” said Lina Guzman, Ph.D., co-principal investigator of the center, commenting in an article from the New York Times on this topic.

If Hispanic fertility continues to decline, it may push the total U.S. fertility rate further below replacement level. The report by Marta Alvira-Hammond documents these trends in more detail.
