CITY Center for Collaborative Learning’s board of directors recently approved a resolution recognizing and appreciating the outstanding service and contribution of one of the organization’s founding principals and its executive director, Carrie Brennan. Brennan has recently accepted the position of Head of School at Thetford Academy in Vermont and will depart her current position in June 2019.
For more than a quarter century, Carrie Brennan has had a deep impact on the Southern Arizona education sector and on generations of students. After an eleven-year stint as a founding teacher and teacher leader at Catalina Foothills High School, Brennan became the founding principal of City High School in downtown Tucson in 2004. In her time as principal, she oversaw the creation and delivery of an outstanding progressive educational program that has graduated over 400 students who have gone on to successful college and post-graduation careers contributing to our community.
In 2015, Brennan led a process to bring together City High School and the two Paulo Freire Freedom middle schools into a new nonprofit corporate organization, CITY Center for Collaborative Learning, and was selected its first executive director. As executive director, she has expanded the facilities for the three schools, enlarged the organization’s work in providing professional development programming to the wider education community, and championed the capital campaign for the renovation of downtown Tucson’s historic Howard & Stofft building on Pennington Street, which serves as an innovative learning center for Southern Arizona educators.
The Board of Directors has established an Executive Director Search Committee to identify the next executive director to continue the organization’s educational excellence and professional development programming. More information and the Interim E.D. posting can be found at cityccl.org.
