POPLAR GASWORKS

Please read the letter of objection to Tower Hamlets and the two attachments.

As things are, the case officer is content with St William’s revised outline version for the re-erection of the two salvaged bays from the No.1 gasholder’s guide frame, in the proposed green grid. And the version will be included with the current hybrid application which will be determined by the STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE at its meeting on 9 May 2019.

The re-erection within the proposed green grid was agreed in secret pre-application discussions; and despite the combined efforts of EEWG and GLIAS, the balance between heritage and landscaping is still severely skewed towards the perceived need to maintain the integrity of the green grid.

PLEASE WRITE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO development.control@towerhamlets.gov.uk (WITH THE PA NUMBER PA/18/02803/A1) in support of EEWG’s objections to St William’s revised outline version; and ask that the Council rejects the revised outline version and insists on its replacement by a fully worked-up detailed proposal in line with EEWG recommendations. If you were one of the 3,912 people who signed the EEWG’s January 2017 petition for the retention of the No.1 gasholder at Poplar, please mention this in your letter/e-mail.

CHEVIOT HOUSE, COMMERCIAL ROAD

Our form-filling campaign re CHEVIOT HOUSE probably helped towards its subsequent conversion to residential use and inclusion in an illustrated list of new additions to the LOCAL LIST. This is well worth looking at and is being consulted on. Comments, especially in favour of CHEVIOT HOUSE and the nearby EAST LONDON SYNAGOGUE, must be sent in by Sunday 24 March 2019 e-mail: placeshaping@towerhamlets.gov.uk .

NEW CHARACTER APPRAISALS AND MANAGEMENT PLANS have been prepared for five conservation areas in and around Whitechapel. The LBTH conservation officers are to be congratulated on preparing these five well-illustrated documents. Like the additions to the local list, they are well worth looking at and commenting on by Sunday 24 March 2019: e-mail: placeshaping@towerhamlets.gov.uk
