Education Bills:
Thursday March 7, 2019 was Crossover Day. While it was a busy day under the gold dome, not very many education-related bills were passed. Below are bills that were passed in either the house or senate last week by the end of crossover day:
 
HB 12 would require all public schools to post a sign displaying the DFCS phone number in order to receive reports of child abuse and neglect. (Williams, R-Milledgeville)
 
HB 218 would change the requirements for home-schooled students to receive the HOPE scholarship from scoring in the 93rd percentile on the ACT to the 92nd percentile. (Williams, R-Milledgeville)

HB 83 would require elementary schools to provide a 30-minute recess every day to all students in kindergarten to fifth grade. (Douglas, D-Stockbridge)
 
SB 60: would require schools to inform student athletes about the warning signs of sudden cardiac arrest. (Martin, R-Lawrenceville)
 
SB 92 would prohibit licensing boards from refusing to issue a license to an applicant because he or she is in default on their government-issued student loans. (Beach, R-Alpharetta) 

SB 108 would require courses on computer science to be implemented in middle school and high school. (Martin, R-Lawrenceville)

SB 163  "Tim Tebow Act," would require school systems to allow students in home school to participate in athletic and extracurricular activities in the schools in their district. (Thompson, R-White)

SB 219 would require high school students to correctly answer 60% of the questions on the United States Citizenship Civics Test in order to receive a high school diploma. (Jordan, D-Atlanta)
