Senior Minister, Rev. Beth Banks

Throughout this last couple of seasons, our congregation has focused on generosity in all its forms. Some young adults commented to Alex Haider-Winnett that our congregation seems to be very generous. Here’s some evidence. One young adult UUCD member mentioned that she had offered her seat on Music Sunday to someone who needed a place to sit. She did it three times for three different people on that jam-packed Sunday! Ralph Robinson offered to take the responsibility of coordinating ushers until mid-June so James Lee-Jobe can have more time to fulfill his position as poet laureate of Davis. Generosity of time was also given by the Visiting Stewards. Both the Steward and the person receiving the visit made new connections for the future. One of my favorite Visiting Steward sessions included the teenager of the family. It was great to hear about his relationship with the congregation. At the end of the conversation, he played music he’d performed for a piano competition. What a gift of music!  I’ve witnessed large and small gestures of welcoming, and giving time, attention, or money. If you’ve seen it, too, add a card to the bulletin board in the Social Hall. This is our final week to gather our responses for Together We: Care Explore Worship Act Give

I'm looking forward to hosting our guest speaker, Rev. Lehel Molnar this Sunday. He is a visiting scholar from our Unitarian partners in Transylvania. Many of you know I also serve as the Chair of the Board of the UU Partner Church Council, so such visits and opportunities to build relationships are near to my heart!

March 17, 9:30 & 11:15am, Diet of Torda––1568; Rev. Lehel Molna, Balázs Scholar; Rev. McLean; Autumn Labbé-Renault, Worship Associate.  Music: Adrienne Taylor and Andrei Baumann.  The Edict of Torda proclamation in Transylvania was the first of its kind: the right of individuals to believe and worship according to their own understanding; for clergy to preach and teach the Gospel as they too, understood it.  This is a cornerstone of our modern understanding of religious practice and belief.

Rev. Molnár serves as Archivist at the Unitarian Headquarters in Kolozsvár, Transylvania (Romania).  He is charged with the restoration, conservation, organization, development and administration of the 450-year-old Unitarian Archives.  After finishing his Seminary training in 1995, he was appointed to this position and to Assistant Minister, First Church in Kolozsvár, where he served for nearly two years.  In November 1999, he was ordained a Unitarian minister. This year, he is taking advanced courses at Starr King School for the Ministry in Berkeley, as the Balázs Scholar.

This summer they will be on faculty at the Tonebank International Academy and Festival in Connecticut.  Please join them for the first of many California performances.
