The state is close to rolling a series of upgrades for Arizona's emergency alert system (EAS). The enhancements will affect newsrooms as well as Master Control operations at every Arizona broadcasting facility. The changes will include a new (and more reliable) internet-based EAS delivery system to broadcasters using iPAWS, the potential for bilingual delivery of emergency alerts, and a refocused effort around how information about AMBER Alerts is shared with stations (and specifically Arizona newsrooms).
The ABA is co-hosting a broadcasters meeting next month with multiple state agencies to walk Arizona broadcasters through the changes. It’s open to all Arizona broadcasters, but engineers and newsroom leaders are most strongly encouraged to attend. The ABA strongly encourages each station/group to have someone in attendance and would ask that each group also limit their attendance to no more than (3) representatives. For those unable to attend in person because of the Phoenix location, a conference call phone number will be set up and emailed out in advance of the meeting. Follow up documentation will also be provided via email.
Feel free to forward this email to anyone else in Arizona broadcasting you feel should attend and email any questions to info@azbroadcasters.org.
