Coffee Gathering:
Social Action, Censorship, and Campus Art Museums

Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at 2:00 PM Eastern

 
On Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at 2:00 PM EST (1:00 PM CST) we will have panelists answering questions on their recent session, “Social Action, Censorship, and Campus Art Museums,” held on Saturday, February 16 during the annual CAA conference in New York. We will digitally reconvene artist Daniel Bejar, the Spencer Museum of Art’s Marilyn Stokstad Director Saralyn Reece Hardy, and York College Galleries Director Matthew Clay-Robison to answer questions on censorship in academic settings. Meet CAA’s newest staff member. Cali Buckley, CAA’s new Grants and Special Programs Manager and RAAMP Coordinator, is interviewed by Joelle Te Paske. Cali discusses her history with CAA, her art historical research, and her hopes for the future of RAAMP.

RAAMP’s Coffee Gatherings have given participants an opportunity to connect with their colleagues from the field and chat about their work as academic art museum professionals, the mission of their institutions, and the innovative solutions they craft to deal with challenges specific to academic museums and galleries.

Submitting Resources to RAAMP
 
After December’s Coffee Gathering, hosts Jessica Cloer, Diane Hart, and Ariana Webber submitted photographs and example student loan forms for student art lending programs at MIT’s List Visual Arts Center, Williams College of Art, and the Rose Art Museum. Jessica Cloer submitted her capstone thesis titled, Guide to Art Lending Programs for Students in Institutions of Higher Learning.

John Waters Exhibition at Ohio State University
The Wexner Center at Ohio State University will be welcoming the John Waters exhibition “Indecent Exposure” from the Baltimore Museum of Art. This will be on view from February 2 through April 21, 2019.
 
“She Matters” at Texas A&M
This exhibition at the Wright Gallery at Texas A&M University explores the perspectives of women of color in today’s society. The exhibit will be on display March 6 through April 26, 2019.
 
Webinar on Virtual Reality for Object Display
Did you know that you can take any objects around you and create virtual reality content and lessons based on those objects? Join us on a journey through the Grasslands, Pre-Historic Times, and Native American Pottery, with the Museum of Texas Tech University, currently combining 3D scanning with zSpace augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) to display historical objects in a virtual environment. With AR/VR at the museum, students and visitors are able to examine, interact, and explore these historical objects in a much more realistic, lifelike way, sparking curiosity and boosting their engagement, depth of understanding, and retention.
 
Princeton University Art Museum Appoints Ronni Baer as Distinguished Curator and Lecturer
The Princeton University Art Museum announced the appointment of Ronni Baer as the next Allen R. Adler, class of 1967, distinguished curator and lecturer. A scholar of Dutch, Flemish, and Spanish art and of the history of collecting, Baer has served as the senior curator of European paintings at the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA), Boston, since 2000. She began her new position on May 1.

Associate Curator of Education – Oklahoma State University Museum of Art
The OSU Museum of Art is seeking an Associate Curator of Education for Public Programs who will build upon current strengths and develop K-12 programs in concert with the Education team’s recently completed interpretive plan and the growing needs of our public partners. This is a full-time position reporting to the Director.
 
Stefan Engelhorn Curatorial Fellow – Busch-Reisinger Museum, Harvard University
The Curatorial Fellowship Program at the Harvard Art Museums is designed to broaden the experience of scholars embarking on professional and academic careers in art history who are considering the museum profession.
 
Assistant Registrar (part time) – University of Minnesota, Twin Cities
The Assistant Registrar manages the art rental program and rights and reproductions; creates and maintains all related records in the museum’s collections database (TMS) and assists the Registrars with acquisitions and loans.
 
Director of Exhibitions and Collection Management – Williams College Museum of Art
The Williams College Museum of Art seeks a Director of Exhibitions and Collection Management (DECM). Reporting to the Director of the museum, this senior management position directs the scheduling and production of all museum exhibitions; the maintenance and storage of museum collections (15,000 objects in a broad range of media) in on- and off-site locations; and the packing, movement, and documentation of artwork in support of the museum’s diverse programming. The DECM oversees the workflow of the museum’s preparators, registrars, an exhibition manager, and outside vendors and contracted personnel. The DECM works closely with fellow members of the museum’s leadership team to oversee planning and implementation of museum/storage renovation and expansion, and actively participates in long-range and strategic planning.
 
Deputy Director for Education and Engagement – Williams College Museum of Art
The Williams College Museum of Art seeks a Deputy Director for Education and Engagement. This senior management position generates the educational vision and engagement strategies of the museum, and leads the team responsible for teaching, learning, visitor engagement, public programming, and digital initiatives.
