Alumnus Lenten Reflection

Never before had it occurred to me—the Faith that I had received, the Faith that was passed on to me—this Faith that I had received came to me in a Roman way.

Lenten Appeal

Lent 2019
Dear Friends,
In the season of Lent, we are reminded and confronted again with the reality of the Paschal Mystery in our lives. Jesus is constantly seen as demonstrating his love for others, a love which will lead through sacrifice to a new flourishing of life. In that spirit I must first express my gratitude with you for your past sacrifices to the Gregorian University Foundation which gave life to the three institutions we support: the Pontifical Gregorian University, the Pontifical Biblical Institute and the Pontifical Oriental Institute. The commitment which you make out of love and faith in the Lord continues to touch thousands of lives not only in the United States, but in 125 other countries as our students complete their studies and return home to serve the Church.

Heads of Worldwide Catholic Religious Orders
Apologize to Abuse Victims and Vow Reform

“We need a different culture in the Church and in our wider society. We need a culture where children are treasured and where safeguarding is promoted,” the statement says. “We still need conversion and we want to change. We want to act with humility. We want to see our blind spots. We want to name any abuse of power. We commit to engage in a journey with those we serve, moving forward with transparency and trust, honesty and sincere repentance.”

The Universal Apostolic Preferences
for 2019-2029

Please click below to read Father General’s letter to the whole Society announcing the promulgation of the Universal Apostolic Preferences of the Society of Jesus, 2019-2029.
These preferences are the fruit of a long discernment that happened across the Society culminating in their confirmation by Pope Francis.  As Fr. General writes, these universal apostolic preferences are intended to be “orientations for improving both the apostolic work of the whole body of the Society and the ways in which we accomplish our ministries, in which the preferences are expressed.”  They are “a means for continuing to be guided by the Spirit.”

Rev Msgr Peter Vaghi STB ’84 STL ‘88

Msgr Vaghi's article entitled, "St. Francis de Sales’s Solution for Our Toxic Public Discourse” was recently featured in America magazine.

In times like these, the “virtuous speech” counseled by St. Francis de Sales in his The Devout Life is downright countercultural.

Five Ways You Can Lead
Like St. Ignatius

Feeling uninspired by our current crop of national political leaders this Presidents’ Day Weekend? Take heart – there are other possibilities.

Over the past decade or so, there has been a growing emphasis in the global Jesuit community on what you might call “Ignatian leadership,” or taking cues on how to lead in modern times from the 16th century founder of the Society of Jesus himself, St. Ignatius Loyola.
