CONSERVING THROUGH RESEARCH AND EDUCATION

SPRING IS COMING

Really, it is. So far my daffodils and crocuses aren't buying it, but salamanders are already on the move further south, and the Spring Peepers have even started calling along the Ohio River. Next time we get some warmer temperatures and a good rain, we are off and running again.

Lots to tell you about, but here I focus on two items. First, the Conservation Conversation is April 6th. This promises to be a great event. Mayor Henry will get us started on a day of presentations, displays, and hands-on demonstrations about regional ecology, the environment, and sustainability. The day will culminate with a reception, silent auction, and a themed dinner with a presentations by sculptor Sayaka Ganz. Please join us!

The other important item to mention is the availability of matching funds for furnishing the new ERC. This is a great opportunity to get more bang for your buck and help us launch this new chapter as successfully as possible.

Thanks!

April 6, 2019: Save the Date!

The Conservation Conversation is coming soon - Saturday, April 6th! Reserve your seat!

This is our signature engagement event for the year. The Conversation facilitates dialogue among local and regional organizations and other stakeholders about the opportunities and challenges for conservation efforts in our growing community. We will foster collaboration with partners to promote the best outcomes for the quality of life in our region. The audience is comprised of the general public, representatives of a variety of organizations and agencies, and the faculty, students, and staff of Purdue University Fort Wayne.

We will be putting the latest and greatest updates on consconv.org, but here are some teasers. Presentations will begin at 9:00 am, with a welcome from Fort Wayne Mayor, Tom Henry. We will then have numerous short presentations throughout the day on subjects including community and organizational resilience in the face of climate change, local sustainability efforts, river water quality, and wildlife research. Confirmed speakers include representatives of the City of Fort Wayne, local industry, state and federal agencies, not for profits like The Nature Conservancy, and a variety of faculty from Purdue Fort Wayne that are affiliated with the ERC.

There will also be displays featuring area conservation organizations, various hands-on activities for young and old alike. Throughout the event, we will have a silent auction with some very special environmentally themed items up for bid, including tickets for Omnibus speaker Jeff Corwin and a special experience at the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo

We will finish the day with a reception (5:00-6:00 pm) and then a dinner (6:00 pm) featuring sculptor Sayaka Ganz. The image above is an example of her work. Learn more about Sayaka at sayakganz.com.

Because space is limited, and pre-planning is needed, RSVPs are required for these. The reception is included in the day's events and free, but the cost for the dinner is $25. This event will be wonderful. We will close the bidding for the silent auction during the reception.

We have moved the venue to the International Ballroom on main campus. We already filled the available space last year at the Alumni Center, so we are going larger. There is a parking garage immediately adjacent to the venue.

Our thanks to our donors who have helped support this important event, and our sincere gratitude to the Programming and Events Committees who, representing a variety of public and private organizations and interests, were crucial to the success of the meeting and the bringing together of all perspectives.

If you'd like to participate or volunteer at the Conversation, or have silent auction items to contribute, contact Liz at erc@pfw.edu or 260-481-5725.

Remember - we will keep consconv.org updated regularly, so keep visiting there for the latest. See you there!

Help us have a place to sit down!

So we have this great new building, but it is empty! Help us furnish it!

It turns out that industrial furniture is expensive. It has been estimated that completely furnishing the ERC will cost over $100,000. Doing so will allow us to host events, classes, and meetings, as well as furnish the reception area, workstations, offices, and other spaces in the building.

Below is a computer rendering of what our Green Room would look like with nice furniture. Great place to have a meeting!

Purdue Fort Wayne Foundation has provided us with up to $40,000 to help purchase this furniture. But as match! This is good, but only if we can get your help. For every dollar you contribute, they will match. In the end we could have most of what we need to make the ERC a wonderful place to work, collaborate, and hang out.

Please consider giving to this very targeted ask. You can donate HERE, or email Bruce Kingsbury and he can help you sort it out.

Thanks!
