Satisfying Workforce Needs
Finding skilled workforce talent has been — and will continue to be — top of mind for companies. That was the primary reason behind Amazon’s decision to build a second headquarters facility. The chosen locations also needed to be considered attractive places to live for the educated, millennial workforce Amazon attracts.
This millennial workforce seeks a work-life balance. With that in mind, millennials often desire flexible positions. In fact, a majority of employees worldwide often work away from the office at least one day a week, according to a study from OWL Labs. This, in turn, is causing facility managers to alter their workspaces.
Although millennials are currently the largest generation in the U.S., companies also need to keep their Gen Z workers, who may require more stability than millennials, happy as well. Companies would do well to collaborate with local economic development organizations that are proactively implementing strategies to cultivate both the millennial and Gen Z workforces in order to fulfill their need for skilled labor.
