Highlights of the weekend include a concert and meet and greet with Larry Sparks and The Lonesome Ramblers; a Victrola DJ Party with Kinney Rorrer and Joe "Bass" Dejarnette; mandolin workshops with Adam Tanner; a dance with The New Ballards Branch Bogtrotters; and so much more. Join us the first Saturday in April for 71st episode of The Floyd Radio Show! With three musical acts, interviews, comedy skits, jokes and more; this is an evening that you won't want to miss! This month's guests include classic country and Americana group Bill and The Belles from Johnson City, Tennessee; The Whitetop Mountain Band; and melodic banjo pioneer Bertram Levy from Port Townsend, WA (originally of The Hollow Rock Stringband).

LARRY SPARKS & THE LONESOME RAMBLERS

Larry Sparks is a dedicated leader for bluegrass music. Larry is among the most widely known and respected touring musicians in bluegrass and gospel music today. Larry began his career in the mid-1960s as a guitarist with the Stanley Brothers and later became lead vocalist for Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys. Larry went on to form his own band in 1969. (The Lonesome Ramblers) He has recorded and toured with his band for nearly 50 years, releasing over 60 albums and delighting countless fans with his soulful vocals and unparalleled musicianship. He was inducted into the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame in 2015. After fifty years in the spotlight, Larry is still on a roll and creating some of his best music.

Old Time Dance: THE NEW BALLARDS BRANCH BOGTROTTERS

The New Ballard’s Branch Bogtrotters continue to play in the traditional Appalachian string-band style often playing for square dances around the region. Rounding out the Bogtrotters lineup are: Eddie Bond on Fiddle, Dennis Hall on Guitar, Josh Ellis with Clawhammer Banjo, Bonnie Bond on Bass and Caroline Beverly on Mandolin. Old time music is alive and well, and continues to attract fans of all ages. The New Ballards Branch Bogtrotters remain a driving force in carrying the traditional music of the Virginia/Carolina Blue Ridge into the new millennium. They are an inspiration for future generations of mountain musicians!

HIGH FIDELITY

High Fidelity is a classic bluegrass band of stellar musicians and singers who are steeped in the sounds of tradition and outstanding in their field. They draw much of their inspiration from bands like Don Reno & Red Smiley, The Stanley Brothers, The Louvin Brothers, Jim & Jesse, and a host of lesser known regional artists from the same era. Many have described them as the new Johnson Mountain Boys, interpreting classic era bluegrass through the fresh, young perspective of today’s generation. Maybe it is this quality that makes High Fidelity so warmly received and widely loved by every audience they perform for – both by the grandparents and the grandchildren.

THE KEVIN PRATER BAND

Kevin began his musical voyage at the age of four. Encouraged and mentored by his Uncle and biggest fan, Boone Estep. At age 10, he formed his first band “Elkhorn Grass.” Elkhorn Grass enjoyed 11 years of touring together. Now, over thirty years later, Kevin has played in 49 States and 23 countries—moving from being one of the best sidemen in bluegrass to leading his own talented and unique band. From the hills of Appalachia, Kevin Prater and his band capture that 'Pure Kentucky' sound.

THE PRICE SISTERS

The Price Sisters, feature Lauren Price, mandolin, harmony/lead vocals, and Leanna Price, fiddle, lead/harmony vocals. Lauren and Leanna are twenty-two year old twin sisters from Sardis, Ohio, who love and perform the traditional style of bluegrass music. They have been greatly influenced and inspired by the sounds of Bill Monroe and his Blue Grass Boys, Hazel and Alice, and the Carter Family, and strive to carry forth those traditional sounds established so long ago. Accompanied by a full band, The Price Sisters’ sound is original and fresh, while also capturing the essence of the traditional style of bluegrass music laid down by Bill Monroe and his disciples.

STANLEY BROTHERS ALL STAR BAND
With Ralph Stanley II, Junior Sisk, Dewey Brown, Tommy Brown, Don Rigsby and Randall Hibbets

This special gathering of musicians who cut their teeth on the music of Carter and Ralph, the Stanley Brothers, was one of the most popular concerts from the 2018 Homecoming and deserved to be shared again. This all-star band includes: Ralph Stanley II, Junior Sisk, Dewey Brown, Tommy Brown, Don Rigsby and Randall Hibbits.
At 6:00 pm the artists will gather on stage to share what the music of the Stanley Brothers means to them and the lasting impact of one of the earliest and most important groups in bluegrass history.
