Congratulations to our Spring 2019 graduates!
Morgan Brown
Rebekah Holt
Daniel Moran
Alissa VanTassell
Kaliegh Walther
Ellen Wofford
Here are after graduation plans for some of the graduates:
Morgan Brown - After graduation I plan to take some time off to study for the GRE, as well as do further research into graduate school programs. I hope to find a program that is associated with any combination of ecology, taxonomy or conservation. I have a graduation trip planned in June along with a few smaller excursions. I am excited to have time to spend on my hobbies as well!
Rebekah Holt - It was a privilege to be able to study here at the Weber State botany program. I had no idea when I started that I would have the incredible opportunities I did in the lab and field, at home and abroad, with so many incredible people. I'm going to miss it, but I'm excited to see what the future holds. I am going to take a year off from school, work and travel, and hope to enter a graduate program in the fall of 2020.
Alissa VanTassell - I will be attending The University of Nebraska at Omaha for my Masters in Biology/Ecology.
Kaliegh Walther - After graduation, I plan on applying for a Ph.D. program with the Andregg Lab at University of Utah. If accepted, I will begin the program starting Fall 2020. Until then, I plan to casually look for a field botany position.
Ellen Wofford - My plans after graduation include going to the University of Utah to pursue a Master's of City and Metropolitan Planning with an Ecological Planning emphasis. I also intend to focus on my writing and finally publish the second novel in a three-part science fiction series.

Summer Endeavors
Botany majors never sit still for long! Summer is just around the corner and they will be busy as usual. Here is a sampling of their summer plans:

McKenna Delton will be a Habitat Restoration Assistant working at the Ogden Nature Center.
Jake Eiting has accepted an REU offer at the International Arctic Research Center in Fairbanks, Alaska for this summer. He will be there from June - August conducting research regarding forest ecosystem responses to permafrost degradation due to climate change. Students who are interested in what an REU is or how he got the position, feel free to ask him!
Haiden Gibbons will be spending some of the summer taking a Microbiology class.
Daniel Moran will be going back to his hometown in California for a vacation. Then he will be looking for a job and moving on with his life.
Kysa Remley will be taking Taxonomy this summer and will also be working full time at Lagoon.
Corey Schellenger will be working for the Utah Department of Food and Agriculture as the head of a crew that will monitor rare and invasive plants.

Take a look at this announcement from the Provost's office!
Summer 2019 Scholarships: Available!
A couple weeks ago we began a marketing campaign promoting summer semester financial aid: both scholarships and Pell grants. Fortunately, the Federal government has reinstated Pell grants for summer semester, providing around $3,000 for students who qualify for a full grant. In addition, we have set aside limited scholarship funds for students attending full-time (12 or more credit hours). We also have some funding for students enrolled part-time (at least 6 credit hours). WSU will award these scholarship funds to qualified students in the order students complete the summer interest form.
Students can indicate their interest in scholarship funds by going to weber.edu/summer then clicking on the link “Qualify for Summer Aid” and completing the summer interest form. Students seeking Pell grant funds should also fill out the summer interest form and register for the classes they plan to take summer semester.

It's exciting for WE.B.SCI to share with our community the success our students experience even after graduation. Zoology graduate, Kristen Ellis shares what she has learned as a graduate student, a successful one at that! Kristen and zoology professor, John Cavitt's research paper was recently named Best ECR Paper of 2018, an incredibly prestigious award.
