Big Spring Clean 2019
Eight Events Across South Edinburgh

Friends Campaign Sponsored By Bernard Hunter
Full Details Of This Year’s  Clean Ups - 8 Events Including Other Partners in the Area

*First Event This Saturday - See Below*

Each Year for the past three years we have organised a ‘Big Spring Clean’ with three events to clean the three main sections of the park. This year we’re joining forces with other partner organisations to try and increase participation in cleaning up the wider area.

There are an array of community activists who help clean up their local areas, and we thought we’d try and join forces to get more people to join in to clear up our parks and public spaces. So why do this? There are some pretty good reasons for doing so:
  • Litter blights our public spaces and our community
  • Plastic litter won’t go away unless it is disposed of and is a danger to both wildlife an human life - Microplastics were present in the bodies of all parcipants from eight European countries in a recent study. It’s time to clean up our act
  • Spending time in a park is good for you. Even just twenty minutes in a park helps you mentally and physically. It’s official, green space is good for you
  • Moderate exercise is good for you too, and that’s exactly what you will get on one of these litter pics
  • It helps this and future generations - let’s leave our children a better and healthier environment
  • It makes the community look much nicer
So, come along and spend some time doing good for yourself, for your community and for all our kids. Check out the dates below and pop along when you can.

We’d like to thank all our partners, including The Friends of St Katharine’s Park, Liberton and District Community Council, Edinburgh and Lothians Greenspace Trust, the 93rd Edinburgh Guides, Edinburgh Evening News and The City of Edinburgh Council. And of course special thanks to our sponsors local Gilmerton company, Bernard Hunter, which is helping support the programme.

We had over 100 volunteers out last year. Let’s see if we can beat that and help make the whole of south Edinburgh cleaner and better.
