NEW MIXED-USE DEVELOPMENT IN CENTERVILLE
At the Fremont City Council meeting held on March 19, 2019, a new mixed-use development proposed by developer SiliconSage Builders was approved. The project will be located on Fremont Boulevard between Parish Avenue and Peralta Boulevard. It will feature 26,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space with 93 rental apartment units on the upper floors along Fremont Boulevard and 72 for-ownership townhomes at the rear of the site facing Peralta Boulevard, Parish Avenue, and Jason Way. The approved project includes demolition of the former Fire Station No. 6 located on the site. It includes infrastructure improvements to perimeter streets, such as a new traffic signal and wider sidewalks. The developer agreed to provide a variety of community benefits, including a community room available to the public to be named in honor of former Fremont Fire Chief Dan Lydon, historical displays documenting the former Fire Station No. 6 building, streetscape beautification, and discussions with local trade unions about providing work for the construction of the project. Construction for this project is anticipated to begin next year.

IRVINGTON BART STATION AREA PLAN
The Draft Irvington BART Station Area Plan is ready for review! The draft document is available online at Fremont.gov/IrvingtonBART. A work session has been scheduled for the Fremont City Council to receive a presentation on the Station Area Plan from City staff and the consultant team, ask questions, and provide comments. The work session will take place Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall in the City Council Chambers, located at 3300 Capitol Ave.
The Station Area Plan has been prepared to provide a framework for achieving the City of Fremont’s longstanding vision of a transit-oriented, active area strategically integrated with the future Irvington BART Station, consistent with the City’s 2011 General Plan and Irvington Community Plan goals. The primary purpose of the Station Area Plan is to ensure successful integration and connectivity between the Irvington BART Station, new development, and existing neighborhoods.
The public is welcome to attend this work session and provide comments. Following the work session, comments will be addressed and public hearings with the City’s Planning Commission and City Council to formally consider the Station Area Plan will be tentatively scheduled in May and June 2019.

NEW PRINCIPAL PLANNERS
Our Planning Division is pleased to announce the promotion of Joel Pullen and Wayland Li to Principal Planner!
Joel graduated from California State University East Bay with a bachelor’s in sociological theory/urban studies. He began his career with the City almost 14 years ago as an intern and has been promoted through the ranks from Zoning Technician all the way to Senior Planner. In his new role, he will lead the current planning section. Email Joel.
Wayland graduated from UC Davis with a bachelor’s in landscape architecture and has 15 years of planning experience, having started his career with the City of East Palo Alto in 2004. He joined Fremont in 2013 as an Associate Planner working on current planning projects and was promoted to Senior Planner in 2015. In his new role, Wayland will lead the long range planning section. MORE AFFORDABLE HOUSING COMING TO FREMONT
Signaling the City’s commitment to the creation of more affordable housing in Fremont, several affordable projects are under construction and additional projects are in the pipeline. In addition, through the City’s recent release of a Notice of Funding Availability, $25 million in local affordable housing funding will support the construction of more affordable rental units in the future. NEW ART SCULPTURE IN DOWNTOWN FREMONT
Fremont will soon welcome a new piece of artwork as part of its Downtown Rotational Public Art Program! Last month, the Fremont City Council approved a new sculpture, The Solacii, for the corner of Capitol Avenue and Fremont Boulevard. The selected piece will replace the Space Glow sculpture, which is currently on display through May 2019. The Solacii was created by artist Tigre Bailando and is scheduled to be on display for two years. More details will be available soon. EARTH DAY 2019 CELEBRATION
Go green with the City of Fremont and Washington Hospital and celebrate Earth Day 2019! Bring your family, friends, and bikes to take part in the festivities on Saturday, April 20 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Washington West Building located at 2500 Mowry Ave. The event is free and fun for the entire family.
This Earth Day event will host children’s arts and crafts, eco-entertainment, games, a bike rodeo, free bike valet parking and basic tune-ups, and educational exhibits. Other highlights include a drop-off location for old eyeglasses, syringes and needles (must be in approved container), and unused or unwanted medications. Hazardous mercury thermometers can also be exchanged for mercury-free thermometers at no charge.
Attendees can also learn more about how to reduce their household’s carbon footprint by signing up for the Fremont Green Challenge. This online tool helps households find ways to decrease their energy and water consumption, reduce waste, and protect the environment, all while saving money!
