Welcome to the Northey Street City Farm E-news for April  2019

AROUND THE FARM
March was a great month and we thank everyone who contributed to our feedback survey. We were well pleased to read all the things that people love about the Farm. Thank you! We have condensed all the positive feedback into a word tree and all the ways we can improve in a cloud.

We were also pleased to see the ways we can improve and most of the feedback is already on our forward plans.

Thanks also to everyone who came to the free native bee hive split and to Richard for demonstrating the split. Thanks to Bushtekniq for running the free bush care workshop and to everyone who came to Clean Up Australia Day here at the Farm - we got over 5 large bags of trash collected from the river and river bed! A huge thanks also to Cheap Trill who came to the Markets with 200 people to perform beautiful songs! This month there will be a Kedron to the markets bike ride organised by the BCC's Cylcing Brisbane on the 14th of April (you can register below). Feel free to make this a day you ride to the markets too, no matter where you live!

Thanks so much to Kylie from Red Thread studios for giving the Farm 10 double passes to see Woman At War. It was a film greatly enjoyed by all those who attended! Next month we are very excited to be able to giveaway double passes to the film 2040 written and directed by award winning film-maker Damnon Gameau (That Sugar Film). We will be giving the tickets away from our Facebook page. We were lucky to attend the preview screening of 2040 and it was wonderful for a film to show a hopeful environmental future. Community owned solar grids, regenerative agriculture, marine permaculture, share riding, solar powered public transport, data screen monitoring our resource use, gender equity and so much more was covered. The revolution is green! We are very thrilled that Damon will be coming to the Northey Street Organic Farmers Market on Sunday the 5th of May. Watch this space!

Winter Solstice
Our annual Winter Solstice Festival is coming up again on Saturday 22nd June. This year it's a bit special, as the Farm is celebrating its 25th Anniversary, plus the festival actually falls on the Winter Solstice! It's going to be a great day of live music, performers and presenters, activities and workshops for all ages.

We are especially excited that we will get to groove and have some fun with much loved Aussie Permaculture band, Formidable Vegetable Sound System! They will be rocking the main stage, along with a stellar line up of local musicians, including Tin Star, Mark Moroney and so much more. The education program is looking good, with a vast range of talks from ethical investing to composting and the kids area has some exciting new facets with loads to keep the kids entertained all day. Tickets go on sale after Easter. To keep up to date with the line up and ticket release, please follow us on Facebook

Next month we are also presenting Guest Speaker Libby Connors who is the author of the book "Warrior: A Legendary Leader's Dramatic Life and Violent Death on the Colonial Frontier", which presents a fascinating story of one of the great Aboriginal resistance fighters of the colonial frontier and a compelling portrait of life in early Brisbane. We have asked Libby to speak on her book and also highlight any information she has garnered through her research about Northey Street City Farm's land and surrounds. This is a free event. We ask that people bring a plate to share for a pot luck dinner at 6.30pm followed by the forum which will start at 7pm. To book click HERE.
