Seed collection from native grasses - Woorndoo
For those of you who live within striking distance of Woorndoo, that we plan to get together next Sunday (31 March) to field-collect seed from a few of the late species (e.g. Lemon Beauty-heads; Blue Devil; Prickfoot), prepare the seed production area for the coming growing season and do some maintenance around the nursery in readiness for our next experimental planting in late May.

There are no fixed times - we will be available to greet volunteers and organise tasks from around 9:30 and continue into the afternoon. If you are travelling some distance, you will be most welcome at any time during the day.  BYO lunch. We will provide light refreshments.

Please wear full-cover footwear and be prepared for changeable weather.
 
Location: David Franklin's nursery and property is at:
1119 Woorndoo-Chatsworth Rd, Chatsworth.

Environmentally Friendly farming at Tiverton

Friday May 3rd, 9-5 .
Autumn Farming at Tiverton, Dundonnell: Grazing Native Pasture, Regenerative Farming. 
Hosted by Tim Hill, Tiverton manager.   

The property is involved in an Eastern Barred Bandicout program and is also experiementing with the use of drones - both of which will also be discussed on the day.

Tiverton is at: 1316 Darlington - Nerrin Road, Dundonnell

Cost will be approx $30 to cover sustenance for the day. More details when we have some idea of the itinerary for the day and numbers.

Native Bees, Wasps and Ants
Time to think about the small things in life and gain a better understanding of these insects, their role and conservation status.

Thursday 4th April 2019
9.45 am (sharp) -  finish 12.15 pm
Registration required (this is a free event).
 
Topics covered will include: 
  • unique Australian bees as well as the introduction of honey bees.
  • an overview of their role, highlight the fascinating world of social insects
  • ‘common bushland ants’ and how this helps communities to see value in nature.
  • the Wild Pollinator Count, a national citizen science project that aims to raise awareness of native pollinator insects
  • common groups of wasps in our environment and research on wasps that parasitise caterpillars
