The Perfect Pirate Name, If Cooking Gets Old

Johnny Spero welcomed two babies into the world, six days apart. In mid-October—less than one week after opening his own restaurant, Reverie, in Georgetown—the chef’s wife gave birth to a baby girl named Fiona. In this week's byGeorge blog, the rising chef shares 'all the wrong reasons' he was first drawn to the restaurant industry, why he moved to Spain at the height of his success working for Jose Andres, and how his daughter is reshaping the way he approaches work.

Feeling Jealous? Think of the Property Taxes.

We can pretend for a few hours, can't we? While you're in the neighborhood for the Georgetown French Market, don't forget the 88th annual Georgetown House Tour, Saturday, April 27 from 11 am - 5 pm. The tour, believed to be the oldest of its kind in the nation, will showcase eight private homes and gardens in Georgetown’s charming and historic residential district. Tickets for the house tour include admission, a Parish tea at St. John's Georgetown Church (3240 O St NW), and a panel discussion featuring Georgetown architects and interior designers who will speak about the classic and modern residential design in this historical neighborhood. Tickets may be purchased in advance online or on the day of the tour at St. John’s Georgetown Church.

The French Market 15

That thing that happened to your BMI freshman year of college? Like that, but over one weekend. Mark your calendar for the 16th annual Georgetown French Market, returning Friday, April 26 - Sunday, April 28 in the Book Hill section of Georgetown! More than 35 locally-owned boutiques, cafes, salons and galleries will feature designer goods, art, home furnishings, French fare (that '15' we spoke of) and more along Wisconsin Avenue (O St to Reservoir Rd)--with some items up to 75% off! Face painting, a caricature artist, roaming street performers, and live French and gypsy jazz will also be onsite. RSVP through Facebook and stay tuned for more info on all of the weekend specials, coming soon.

Everyone BE COOL

We're days away from peak bloom. Proceed in a calm and orderly fashion to Georgetown. Cherry blossom season in this corner of the District offers a more relaxed alternative to the tidal wave of people headed to the Tidal Basin. For an off-the-beaten-path experience--including 10 acres of Dumbarton Oaks' gardens and pathways lined with cherry trees--check out the cherry blossom-themed special events, attractions, and dining in DC's oldest neighborhood.

The text-heavy photo kind of stole all our writing thunder. We're not bitter.

When Your Greatest Fear Is Sharing Your Fears

The evening may or may not end with a trust fall. Head to the beautiful 2622 P St NW event space for their monthly No Tech Tuesday Happy Hour, April 2 from 5 pm - 7 pm. Check your tech devices at the door, refrain from talking about work (we're looking at you, ALL of DC), and discuss this month’s topic--personal fear--with some new friends while you enjoy a glass of wine. When that starts feeling too scary, you can return to talking about the weather.

Talk of the (George)Town

We're on a real 'pretty drink pictures' kick lately, but this is too beautiful not to share. Head to Dyllan's Raw Bar Grill for a cherry blossom cocktail that's almost too Instagram-perfect to sip.

Almost.

Keep talking about Georgetown, and tagging us on InstagramFacebook, & Twitter!
