Arizona's LD #22 Monthly Minutes
Minutes of LD-22 Meeting on March 21, 2019
Chair Bobbie Kithcart called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
LD22 now has a respectable flag for the Pledge. Many thanks to Lynn Peters who brought a large standing flag for our Pledge of Allegiance.
Bobbie welcomed everyone to the meeting and asked newcomers to stand and be recognized.
Bobbie Kithcart introduced and thanked Janet Pettifer, who has volunteered to be the Board Secretary.
The Minutes of the February 21st meeting were approved as written.
Our speaker roster was jam-packed with information. Garrett Archer, the Sr. Analyst at the Secretary of State's office, presented highlights of the 2018 mid-term election. He illustrated the erosion of the opposition's influence in Maricopa County suburbs and highlighted the work LD22 did with high voter turnout toward electing Democrats. He also reinforced the 4.7% margin in the Special Election. While the NW Valley has been historically red we have been chipping away at the corners of the opposition's perceived fortress.

K-12 and Higher Education was the theme of speakers, David Lujan, Director of the AZ Center of Economic Progress [www.azeconcenter.org] and Superintendent of Schools, Kathy Hoffman. David set the stage. He laid out, in stark reality, the impact of 20 years of tax cuts that our leadership has balanced on the back of public education. The impact of these decisions on facilities, students and teachers were disheartening.
The Superintendent provided a positive counterpoint with her plan to influence policy at the legislature, as well as supporting teachers, students, and facilities.
Our special guest speaker, Dr. Hiral Tiperneni, thanked everyone for our work during the special election. She announces that she had been contacted by the DNC and encouraged to run for Congress again, but in CD6, which she accepted. The group was very supportive of her effort to work for Arizonans.
Bobbie Kithcart, Announced the addition of the "donate" button on the website and encouraged all to "act now". We are now fully subscribed to Act Blue who will be processing payments from donations! Check out the link on the site here.
A BIG THANK YOU to Cheri Thomlinson for organizing the boxed sandwiches!
Bobbie has requested help with recruiting PC's and making phone calls. Several people have agreed to help, specifically - Sue Heck, Lynnn Peters, Mary Ann Greene and Maria Bears. Thank you for helping us grow our LD!
Canvassing is about to start soon to thank high efficacy voters, get them to use our social media sites as well as collect information important to candidates and the LD. Dean has done a great job of helping us identify our target for canvassing as well as working to collect the data privately and create a supportive list that helps us be efficient at the door.
Matt Varitek presented the Treasurer's report and approved by the group.
