By Way of Reminder #295
Optimism vs Hope
Placing our hope in anything except God sets us up for vast disappointment. I love the idea of hope being, "anticipating a future better than the present." Certainly, all men do this, but the difference between blind optimism and true hope is the object of its source.
This video does a great job explaining the difference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WYNBjJSYvE
What spans this great divide between optimism and hope?
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy, He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
1 Peter 1:3-5 (emphasis mine)
The object of our confidence in a better future must be grounded in One larger than ourselves. This seems simple, but taking time to ponder in what (or whom) we place our hope can be very telling of how we choose to spend our time while we wait.
Do justly. Love kindness. Walk humbly. Stay tuned.
In Christ,

"I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them, and have been established in the truth which is present with you." (2 Peter 1:12)
