News
Community Education Information Morning -  What's going on for YOU in your Community

As part of the Dublin Learning City week Holly House Community Resource Centre invites you to find out more about what is going on for YOU in your community. For more information contact Sandra King on 01 272 2020 or email sandra.king@sspship.ie. The event will take place at the Scouts Den in the Coolevin estate, Ballybrack, Co. Dublin on April 11th from 11-1pm. 

The event is organised as part of the Dublin Learning City Festival which focuses on promoting accessible life-long learning with over 100 events happening over the week in various locations all over Dublin. To access the full festival programme please click here.
DATF Updates

The DLR Drug and Alcohol Task Force has released new information is now available on their website: http://www.dlrdrugtaskforce.ie
 
This includes
1. DROP (Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Outreach Project) has issued its 2019-21 Strategic Plan.
 
2. The Youth At-Risk Network has issued a Diary Date for its next workshop, scheduled for May 23rd, 2019. 
 
3. The DLR Drug and Alcohol Task Force has issued a short Funding & Activities Report, 2018 into 2019
 
4. Announcement that the 6th Global Alcohol Policy Conference 2020 (GAPC 2020) will be held in Dublin, Ireland 9-11 March 2020. 

 
SCTN Courses this Spring
Managing  Professional Boundaries - New Training Date -
May 14th 2019 !!
This term Southside Community Training Network will be running a FREE 1-day course on Managing Professional Boundaries at Stonebridge Community Centre. The training date has changed to May 14th 2019. The training will be running from 9.30am-4.30pm at Samuel Beckett Civic Centre in Ballyogan.

Introduction to Motivational Interviewing Training -
Additional Date!!!


Due to the successful training we ran in March we have decided to run this training again as there was a lot of interest. The training will be running over two full days on Thursdays on June 6th and June 20th 2019. The venue will be announced at a later stage and we will release a flyer shortly.

Motivational interviewing (MI) is an approach, drawing from client-centred theory, cognitive theory, systems theory, social psychology and persuasion. As an approach it was developed to enable individuals to reach a decision to change and to commit to this change. 
 

This course will be open to anyone working with a local community group or organisation in DLR which has a social inclusion focus or those who are interested in working in this field.

Understanding Self-Harm Training

Southside Community Training Network in collaboration with the HSE will be running a 1-day training course on ‘Understanding Self-Harm’ on June 17th 2017 from 9.30am-4.30 at Shanganagh Park House, Rathsallagh Ave, Shankill, Co. Dublin. 
 
The aim of the programme is to:
 
  • Develop participants’ knowledge and understanding of self-harm and the reasons underlying self-harm behaviour
  • Consider the needs of people who self-harm
 
The training is suitable for people who work with young people such as youth workers, teachers, residential care staff, Gardaí, and people in caring professions and parents, concerned members of the public, people who work in alcohol and addiction services, those who work with homeless people and people who work with those recovering from mental illness.

SafeTALK & ASIST Training - new Dates!!!

Southside Community Training Network will be organising further suicide alertness & prevention training over the next coming weeks:

There will be two SafeTALK suicide alertness sessions:

May 2nd 2019 from 9am-1pm at Loughlinstown Community Rooms
May 27th 2019 from 9am-1pm at Shanganagh Park House


We will also be running another 2-day ASIST training (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills training on June 10th and 11th 2019 at Mounttown Community Facility.

Dun Laoghaire Community Training Centre is currently recruiting for all its courses – Industrial Skills, Catering, Hair and Beauty, IT Skills and Childcare.

DUBLIN LEARNING CITY FESTIVAL
8-12 APRIL 2019


The Dublin Learning City festival is all about promoting accessible life-long learning. An initiative as defined by UNESCO, was launched this week by Lord Mayor of Dublin, Nial Ring during 1916 Leader and Learners bursaries in the Mansion House.

New DDLETB VTOS Courses Enrolling for September 2019

The Adult Education Service in Shankill will be offering two VTOS courses from Sept 2019 and they are enrolling now. They will be offering Entrepreneurial & Business Skills QQI Level 5 and Computer Applications with Payroll and Web Design QQI Level 5. Please click on the course titles for the course flyers.

Spunout.ie Mental Health Training 

SpunOut.ie will be hosting a series of training sessions over the coming months. These sessions have been designed to assist youth workers, professionals, and volunteers with speaking to the young people they work with about issues around mental health.

FREE “STRESS CONTROL” EVENING CLASS

What is it?
‘Stress Control’ is a six-session evening class being run by the HSE Dublin South Primary Care Psychology Service for those living in the Dun Laoghaire area. ‘Stress Control’ was devised to help the large number of people who experience stress and who are keen to learn how to tackle their problems themselves.

As this is a class and not therapy no one will be asked to discuss their personal experience.
Each session deals with a separate aspect of stress but as they all link together, for date and time please go to here.

SAVE THE DATE - Age Well Expo 2019



The inaugural dlr Age Well Expo 2019 happening Sunday 9th June 2019 at the Leopardstown Pavilion. The Expo will showcase a range of services and supports available for positive ageing in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, and will include talks and taster sessions for everyone to enjoy.
 
This one day event will include guest appearances from Rosemary Smith and Christy Kenneally, along with Cookery Demonstrations, Dance Lessons, Exercise Classes, Music and much much more.
