Do you have cabin fever? Take your spring cleaning outside, and sign up for a volunteer project with Delaware State Parks! Each spring we need help getting our natural resources ready for the year ahead. We offer fun volunteer projects for families, groups, and individuals. You can help with trail maintenance, archaeology, environmental stewardship, and more!

Fort Delaware Opens for the Season!

Fort Delaware opens for the season on Saturday, April 27! Board the ferry to Pea Patch Island and travel back in time to the summer of 1864 when Fort Delaware served as a Civil War prison. Tour the parade ground, officers’ quarters, barracks, kitchen, blacksmith shop and ordnance room. Hear stories of great escapes, and watch as the Fort’s Columbiad cannon fires a gunpowder charge! Delaware Goes to War
Saturday, April 27 at Fort Miles Museum and Historical Area

Travel back in time to WWII during this annual living history event! For one day each year, Fort Miles comes to life with re-enactors who portray what the Fort would have been like during World War II. 51st Annual Great Delaware Kite Festival

Celebrate spring and fly a kite! Join us on Friday, April 19 at Cape Henlopen for the state's greatest kite festival. Fly a kite, watch kite demonstrations, join the easter egg hunt, and grab a bite to eat from a variety of food vendors. Egg hunt begins at 11 a.m., kite competitions and demonstrations follow. Celebrate Earth Day

Earth Day is the perfect opportunity to get outside and help preserve our wonderful natural areas. Delaware State Parks takes great pride in maintaining some of Delaware’s most scenic locations. Through the entire month of April, we’ll be hosting a series of Earth Day programs. Walk around the Green and discover what trees Delaware’s leaders chose to bring natural beauty to our capital city. Tackle the trash on the Brandywine and Christina Rivers, or help keep the Delaware Seashore clean from coast to coast. Intern with Delaware State Parks

Are you or someone you know looking to break into or gain experience in your desired career field? Consider an internship with Delaware State Parks. Follow in the footsteps of a mentor as you gain practical hands-on training. We offer internships in the following areas: early childhood education, historical interpretation, management, conservation, performing arts, hospitality, stewardship, research, and environmental studies. Civil War Day

Join hundreds of volunteers nationwide to help us clean up Delaware's only major Civil War historic site. We will be doing basic cleaning and set-up work. Now is the time to help out your local history site, get a behind-the-scenes look at Fort Delaware, and get a free Civil War Trust t-shirt! Spring into Something New

In this season of fresh starts, why not try something new in our parks? Enjoy Alapocas Run State Park’s Meandering Meal, where you will stroll through the park and stop to eat several courses.
