COOPERATIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS

Cooperative Learning Environments (CLEs) are weekly topical-based educational & interactive sessions, in which World Relief clients and community volunteers are invited to participate together. CLEs provide not only an opportunity for learning, but also a natural social environment for relational connections to form. CLE volunteers are encouraged to look for opportunities to develop relationships that may expand outside of the regular gathering times.

COMMUNITY CONNECTION TEAMS

Integrated communities are formed through connections and relationships. Community Connection Teams (CCTs) facilitate relationships between members of the existing community and newcomers. A Community Connection Team is a small group of people, often times from a church, committed to loving their neighbors. A CCT is partnered with a refugee or immigrant individual or family for a minimum of 6 months and works to provide social interaction and a network of friends. A CCT’s role is to provide a place of welcome and belonging for newcomers through monthly relationship-building activities, such as gatherings at team members homes or social outings. These monthly gatherings offer an opportunity for newcomers to feel welcomed, to socialize, to experience new things, and share culture. Additionally, CCTs offer great potential for long-term, reciprocal relationships to develop.

THE POWER OF YOUR VOICE

As we pass the mid-year point, we want to keep you updated on where we stand with refugee arrivals.

Compared to the 84,944 total refugees the U.S. welcomed in FY 2016, the U.S. is currently only projected to welcome 24,369 in FY 2019, indicating a drop of 71.3% overall.

This estimate is roughly 19% – 5,631 refugees – below the Presidential Determination of 30,000 set by the Trump Administration last fall.

Read the World Relief press release concerning the reduction in refugee arrivals and learn more about the recent downward trend of arrivals compared to the past with the following link and infographic:

LOG YOUR HOURS!

As a non-profit, the recording of volunteer hours is essential to the funding and impact of our programs. Unfortunately, only 1/3 of our volunteers log time and mileage. Volunteer Hours are valued at $24.69 an hour and help us raise a cash match for refugee programs.

BE A PART OF THE STORY

"We were delighted to meet four amazing young brothers who came by the Winston Salem office to drop off a Welcome Kit that they had put together. How did they do this? Did they have a fundraiser or donation drive? Did their parents provide the money, or did they save up their allowance?..."
