Springfield School

Friday 29 March

Tēnā koutou katoa parents and caregivers,

Fundamental Movement Spectacular
Our thanks to the parents who joined in to support our junior group with their day yesterday.  Being a small school means that we can’t always send a teacher along to an event.  To make it possible for us to still join in, we rely on parents to step into a supervisory role.  Our expectation is that parents are supportive of teachers instructions and event requirements.  If you have any concerns around how things are run, please come and speak to me directly.

Kapahaka
Next week the seniors will be attending.  Please remember to check the roster to see if it is your turn for parent help.

Lunch Orders
Please ensure lunch orders for Thursday 4th and Thursday 11th April are handed into the office by 9:00am on the Tuesday prior with the correct change.

School Trustee Triennial Elections
Have you considered being on our school board?  Helping us make decisions and supporting our school.  If you think this is something you would be interested there will be further information coming out soon.

School garden weeding
If anyone has some spare time up their sleeves over the weekend we would love some help to weed the garden beside the multipurpose room.  Many hands make light work!  We have approx. 20 teachers and principals descending upon Springfield School for a workshop next Thursday so we are keen for our school to look it’s best!

Our garden club started off with a hiss and a roar last week with a large group of children committing to this activity. My thanks to Emma Stead for taking this project under her wing.  We are still on the hunt for a compost bin and some pea straw (or similar) for our garden area so if you have either of these things please let us know.

Wearable Arts and Kiwiana Lunch
A reminder about our upcoming wearable arts show on Thursday 11th April.  If you are able to help out with children’s groups (stapling, hot gluing, sewing) please let us know asap.  At this stage we have had two offers of help. Next week will be a big week for the groups in terms of constructing their art piece.

Have a great weekend.

Each year Jennian Homes works alongside the Heart Foundation to hold an amazing Mother’s Day 5km Fun Run/Walk in Hagley Park to bring awareness to heart disease in women – especially mothers.  Heart disease is the biggest killer of New Zealand women, claiming the lives of over 3000 women every year.  We are asking women to band together to love their hearts.

Last year there were around 1000 participants and supporters doing their best and giving it a go in Hagley Park.  This year we hope to increase that number to 1200 people - out in the fresh-air on Mother’s Day giving it their all for the Heart Foundation.  We are very excited about bringing this event to the Canterbury area and have been receiving some amazing feedback and a high level of interest from people keen to attend.

The Fun Run is a wonderful family friendly can-do event and we encourage people of all ages and abilities to have a go.  Each participant receives a collector’s t-shirt designed by Dick Frizzell and all proceeds go directly to the Heart Foundation.

The countdown is on until the end of Term One and we have another exciting holiday programme planned.
The Sports Programme was a huge hit last holidays so it is here to stay! These holidays it will be running from Lemonwood Grove School, and we are super excited to have this sports based holiday programme on offer at BB’s. We do have to limit the numbers so book fast do you do not miss out! Children from all schools and all ages welcome.
