We need your help to get an important bill passed in the Arizona House.
As you may know, we are working to pass SB1099 through the Arizona legislature which would provide BSA and several other patriotic youth-serving organization access to schools for recruitment purposes. Patriotic youth-serving organizations, defined in Title 36 of the U.S. Code, include Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Boys and Girls Club of America, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and FFA.
Specifically, this bill:
1. Allows principals to give representatives from defined patriotic youth-serving groups (per Title 36 U.S. Code) the opportunity to address students for up to ten minutes during regular school hours at the start of the academic school year, if requested by a group’s representative.
2. Provides reasonable access to distribute materials directly to students on school property throughout the academic year.
3. Provides equal access to facilities for youth group meetings.
SB 1099 passed the Arizona Senate 29 – 1. This week the House Education Committee passed the bill on a 10-2-1 vote. Now the bill heads to the full House for a vote. We hope this bill receives the same favorable response from the legislators in the House and ask for your help.
