Live Music Double-header!

This week we're thrilled to present not one but TWO outstanding singer-songwriter evenings! Here's why you'll want to take in both:

Thursday March 28th 7:30pm: Jon Brooks

Toronto's Jon Brooks is a brilliantly gifted songwriter and guitarist who traverses the continents, playing mostly small rooms and clubs and gathering fiercely loyal fans wherever he plays. And for good reason: while his songs are masterfully composed and performed, and tell stories of our strengths and frailties, drawing on both the darkness and light that dwell within us all. Such songs and stories are best shared and appreciated in an intimate venue such as BBVE.

“An hour of pop music could take you away from your life and make you happy for a bit, but when the show is over, everyone goes home alone,” said Brooks. “I write music that takes people on a journey and asks them to look at themselves, so when everyone goes home, they have the feeling they are not alone in the world.”

Recommended listening: "Mercy", "Gun Dealer" and what may be one of the longest titled songs ever: "If We Keep What's Within Us What's Within Us Will Kill Us But If We Give What's Within Us What's Within Us Will Save Us".

Jon is touring in support of his latest album,
No One Travels Alone, and will be joined by trusted sideman Neil Cruickshank.

A limited number of tickets remain for this show
but we'd love to see you there! Purchase yours by phone at 778-351-0178 during business hours. Doors open at 7pm.

Friday March 29th 7:30pm: John Gogo

One of our island's finest singer-songwriters, John Gogo makes a rare appearance at BBVE on Friday evening with songs and stories of Island people, places and past.

John hails from a prodigious musical family in Nanaimo (brother Paul is the keyboardist for Chilliwack and blues guitarist cousin David is a three time Maple Blues award-winner) and a long line of miners and loggers. After a two year stint as a north island Chokerman, he launched his professional musical career with two of his brothers in the progressive rock band Graphics, touring BC and Alberta.

In 1985 John switched gears and began playing his acoustic guitar in pubs, beer parlours and at folk festivals. He released his first album 'Coal & Wood' in 1990, with original songs about his family history in mining and logging. He co-created and performed a 5-year run of 'Good Timber - Songs and Stories of the Western Logger' and has released five albums during his career.

Recommended listening: "The infamous Devil of De Courcy", "Three Letters Home", and "Faithful Unto The End"

This concert is part of our regular no-cover Friday music program. However we strongly recommend you visit the shop or call 778-351-01789 during business hours and add your name to our Advance VIP List.
