Hi Friend

Are you tired after a busy festival season? We certainly are! But, we hope you enjoyed yourselves immensely in the midst of all the accessible events on offer.

So, we decided to create a shorter Artorial this month to assist in your recuperation!

In this edition, we discuss the Audio Described and Captioned performances of State Theatre Company's The Club and Guildhouse's  2019 Fellowship Call Out. As it's grant writing season, we're ensuring your informed of grant options for your arts projects.

This month, we're spicing things up. In place of an Artist Profile, we're doing an 'Art Form Profile' - and celebrating something we love dearly at A2A, Audio Description! Of course, we really love celebrating Deaf and disabled artists too! if you upload your artist profile submission here, we can celebrate you on website and in a future Artorial.

Have a great month!

Thanks
Access2Arts

Audio Description
Audio Description logo. 'AD' in white block letters next two three white lines

Audio Description makes the visual verbal. It provides accessibility of visual aspects for live events such as theatre, visual arts, parades and other art forms, for people who are blind or vision impaired.
Audio Description is delivered in between natural dialogue of the live event via an individual wireless transmission system

Audio Description also includes tactile tours of theatre sets and exhibitions where describers lead patrons in meeting performers and artists, and discovering key set elements, props, costumes and tactile analogues to enhance the description experience.

Not only does audio description provide access to your work for people who are blind or vision impaired. Audio description can also assist people who have Autism Spectrum Disorders. Thus increasing the availability of your event to a broader audience.

The "invention" of Audio Description is credited to the late Dr Margaret Pfanstiehl and her husband Cody in 1981. However, Chet Avery proposed the concept through independent efforts in the late 60’s and Gregory Frazier worked on the idea in the 1970’s.

Access2arts currently has 13 professional audio describers working across various art forms. However, they have trained a number of describers nationally and internationally to provide audio description for live events.

Access2Arts has a set of comp tickets to the Audio Described performance of The Club to give away. Register your interest via the button below to go into the running to win these tickets.
