New consultation and transparency requirements

New regulatory requirements to improve consultation and increase transparency of offshore oil and gas activities were announced by Minister for Resources and Northern Australia Matt Canavan today. 

These changes include: 

  • publication of full environment plans, both on submission to, and acceptance by, the independent regulator NOPSEMA
  • a 30 day public comment period on environment plans for all seismic surveys and exploratory drilling

The new regulations have been registered on the Federal Register of Legislation and will commence on 25 April 2019.

Last chance to comment on 2019 Offshore Acreage Release areas

Public comment on areas nominated for the 2019 Offshore Petroleum Exploration Acreage release closes on Sunday 31 March 2019. 

Submissions will be considered when determining which offshore areas will be made available for bidding, for future exploration.  Comments can be made on Consultation Hub until 11.59pm, Sunday 31 March 2019.
