Me and My Sister
Me and My Sister is a new book by Rose Robbins released in April, written for children, about growing up with an autistic sister.
“Delightful picture book! Young siblings who are growing up with a brother or sister with autism will readily identify with the sibling experiences depicted. This is a lovely book for parents to read with young siblings and will help start those conversations about the enjoyable and difficult aspects of their family lives.” Monica McCaffrey

Media coverage
Thanks go to Rhiannon Lucy Cosslet for her brilliant article in The Guardian this month reviewing Dangerous Giant Animals, Christina Murdock’s powerful one woman play.  The play tells the story of Christina’s own experience growing up with her sister Kayla who has Rett’s Syndrome.  Christina was able to come along to perform an excerpt at our Sibs adult sibling conference in November last year.  As the article describes, “The day was an intensely moving experience, because it was the first time that I had ever sat in a room with people whose experiences were very much like mine, who understood profoundly the emotions that I was describing as the sibling of a vulnerable person; lurching between protectiveness and fury, sadness and hilarity, heartbreak and love.”  The link to the full article is here.

CPD Seminar for Counsellors
Are you a counsellor, psychologist or psychotherapist? Sibs is running a specialist seminar on the 12th April in London for those who are supporting or wishing to support, adult siblings of people with autism/learning disability.  This half day session will cover key issues counsellors need to know when supporting adult siblings and is CPD (Continuing Professional Development) accredited. Just a few places left! For more information click here.

The Essential Trustee and Job description

Helping Sibs
Lots of people who contact Sibs want to help us raise awareness of our work and fundraise for us.  As a very small charity relying solely on donations and fundraising, Sibs is very grateful for any support big or small.  Any help you can give, means we can provide more direct support to siblings and their families.
So what can you do?
  • Tell people about us!  Perhaps you can tell your child’s school about the work of Sibs – we can send you some leaflets to share.  If a school or community group you are involved in is having a charity fundraiser and want to choose a charity, perhaps you could nominate Sibs.  Perhaps you might like to organise a cake sale, a quiz night or a sponsored silence or maybe a community car wash.
  • Follow Sibs on social media and share our posts so that we can reach more siblings. You can find us on Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin.
  • Your place of work or study might choose a charity to support – please tell them about the work of Sibs. There might be adult siblings you work or study with who don’t know we are here for them, raising awareness is very important to us.
  • Become a friend of Sibs – to find out click here
  • If you or a family member might like to make a donation to Sibs you can donate here
Still not sure how you can help?
Contact Sibs on info@sibs.org.uk we would love to hear from you.

Kind regards

Clare Kassa
