U14 Girls v Sevenoaks Home Counties Development League
CHAMPIONS!
It was a glorious sunny day at Polo Farm, we couldn’t have asked for better playing conditions. The girls knew if they secured a win or a draw they would win the HCGL development league title.
Canterbury started the first half strong with dominant attacking from Poppy, Georgie, Eleni and Elissa and within 10 minutes came the first goal scored by Georgie. Canterbury defended well with brilliant saves from Neave supported by Rebecca, Annie, Grace and Lucy in defence.
The second half was tense and tight with escalating pressure from Sevenoaks; they made several attempts on goal but Canterbury U14 s fought hard. There was great play by our mid field players Annabelle, Abigail, Irmak and Jess, but it was only a matter of time before Sevenoaks eventually scored 5 minutes before the end to level the game. The Canterbury girls were not to be defeated and counter attacked strongly; within the last sixty seconds of the end Irmak made an awesome pass to Georgie who scored her second goal. There were sighs of relief and yells of delight from the home spectators as the final whistle blew. The girls had done it and the team should be very proud, well done!
