Camellias: Alabama's "Rose of Winter"

From studying the Dixie Art Colony archives and seeing multiple examples of Dixie Art Colony artwork, we know that at times the colonists would select a subject, such as a camellia or magnolia blossom as their subject for the day. In this post we included numerous photographs of local camellias and other examples of camellia paintings, including three by “DAC: A New Generation” artist Barbara Binford Davis. We also included some history about the camellia and its journey to the South.
