Among her many accomplishments, Dorothy Kendall Griffith was a driving force and pioneer in the establishment of library service in Greenup County.
Through her career she served on state committees and received Kentucky’s Outstanding Librarian of the year award in 1981. The establishment of a first-rate local history and genealogy room was one of her personal goals. Knowledgeable and prideful of her roots and those of other families in the history of Greenup county, she worked diligently to acquire and house a stellar and unique collection of records.
“Dorothy has been an inspiration for many facets of my life,” said Sharon Haines, director of Greenup County Public Library. “The importance of family and keeping them close, the way to handle work and kids, her love of people and her fun-loving spirit and sense of humor, and her high expectations of others have guided me through 50 years of my life. I am so blessed to have known and loved her.”
