City Roots CLT Annual Meeting Report

The board presented its Annual Report on what we've accomplished in 2018 and where we plan to go from here. Members gave input and voted on 2019's slate of board directors.

Here's what went on:
  • Concentric skills: We had an opportunity to learn more about the other folks involved with City Roots
  • Annual Report presented by the board
  • We voted to approve the board slate and discuss proposed amendment to bylaws
  • Below is the new board and the new amendment
New Board Member Slate

    • Elizabeth McGriff
    • Dorian Hall
  • General Representatives (2 slots to be filled)
    • Wallace Smith

  • Public Representatives (2 slots to be filled)

Passed Amendment to our bylaws. Currently the bylaws call for us to have our Annual Meeting during the fourth quarter of the year.  The board would like to amend the bylaws to allow for the meeting to be held in the first quarter of each year.  From section 6b (proposed changes in red):

" Annual Meetings. Subsequent to the First Annual Meeting, the Annual Meeting of the Membership, for reports to the Membership by the Board of Directors and Officers, the election of Directors, the assessment of dues, and the transaction of other business, shall be held in the fourth first quarter of each year. The location and 5 specific time of the Annual Meeting shall be determined by the Board of Directors. Notice of the Annual Meeting shall include a list of those persons nominated for the Board of Directors as provided in ARTICLE III: of these Bylaws."

History of Rochester Gentrification

Facilitated by educator Shane Wiegand of the City Roots Community Land Trust this workshop will explore and deconstruct the history of redlining, restrictive covenants, and racist/discriminatory housing practices throughout Rochester's history of urban development.

How have these exploitative practices led to the disinvestment of the inner city, downtown; eventually leading to displacement in the present is just one of many essential questions that will be explored.

What individual and collective actions can we take today to dismantle and end systematic displacement of marginalized communities and persons of color?
