This Week at CBU

BARRIER FREE: A SOCIALLY ENGAGED ART INSTALLATION

In conjunction with the current exhibitions in the Beverly & Sam Ross Gallery, local artist (and CBU alumna) Yancy Villa-Calvo will present her nationally-exhibited art installation Barrier Free in CBU’s Buckman Quadrangle during the week of March 25-29. Barrier Free uses the power of art to reverse the controversial idea of the U.S-Mexico border proposal. The traveling installation advocates for and celebrates unity, diversity, and inclusion. It provides opportunity to reflect on the challenges of human-made and systemic barriers that divide us, from immigration laws to mass incarceration. The interactive piece, along with its programmatic elements, is a call to action to build a society that embraces the contributions of a diverse world. Meet Yancy and learn more about her artwork from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on March 25, 26 and 28 in the Quad. More info at barrierfreeart.org »»

Fellows will receive stipends of $3,500 for the summer and $2,500 for the academic year in addition to potentially receiving academic credit through their department or school. President’s Ambassador Program

The President’s Ambassador Program is looking to add some new members to its ranks! President’s Ambassadors (or PAs) are a diverse group of friendly, talented, CBU-loving students who volunteer their time to give campus tours for prospective students and their families as well as joining the Admissions staff during scholarship events and "Preview Days." PAs are truly the face of CBU for prospective students. It’s not all work either! We have monthly meetings where you can grab some lunch and socialize with the group. There are also monthly drawings for a reserved parking spot and gift cards! Plus, at the end of the year, we have a big celebration where you are rewarded for all of your hard work! If you like volunteering, meeting new people, making new friends, and if you love CBU, then the President’s Ambassador program is for you!
To apply for the program, please contact Rachel Clark at rachel.clark@cbu.edu or stop by the Admissions Office at Buckman Hall 127.

Think Safety: Tips from Campus Police

LOCKED OUT OF YOUR CAR?
(From yourmechanic.com)

It’s pretty easy to get locked out of a car, and if the key gets lost or locked inside of the vehicle without a spare handy, then there's a real problem. If you do not have a spare key you can take your vehicle registration to a  car dealership and they will make a key. To save money, request they make a non-chipped key to open your door. A chipped (the ignition recognizes the key and allows you to start your vehicle) ignition key can easily cost $100 or more. Calling a professional locksmith is another option.
There are a few techniques that you can try, at your own risk, as they don’t take particularly specialized equipment, and they can be done by people with little or no prior locksmith experience.
• Warning: If a child or pet is trapped inside of a car, call the police or fire department to get them out as quickly as possible.
Unless the situation is an emergency, don’t rush any of the steps involved. Don’t force the door open. Damaging the doors or the locks themselves turns an inconvenience into a serious problem.
• Warning: Do not use these instructions to break into a car illegally. On top of the fact that felonies are not advisable, all methods listed here have a high likeliness of setting off the car’s alarm.
