APRIL SPOKE
Reconnecting
Mackenzie Dunn

Welcome spring! The season is all about renewal and awkening, of ourselves, our environment, our communities and our spirits.

As we shake off our hibernation and breathe in the green scents while we venture outdoors, it is time for reconnecting.  Reconnecting with the earth, as we hike, bike, and sink our hands into the soils of our garden and welcome back the songbirds. Reconnecting with our neighbors and friends as the light stretches into the evenings. Reconnecting with our home and hearth as we perform the annual ritual of the spring clean.  Reconnecting with our spirits as the doldrums of late winter leave and the sun shines bright into our hearts.

At Threshold we are excited to be part of all of those journeys!  We hold space for family and friends to come together, for businesses to gather and come away with new ideas and purpose, for the community to come and learn, sing, grow, and introspect.

We invite you to come and reconnect at Threshold - public talks, weekly meditations and choir meetings, and our Gaia Gathering on May 1 through 5 that offers so many ways to explore ourselves, our communities, and our environment and how we are all connected and how we can all grow together.

The Gaia Gathering is a multi-day, multi-dimensional exploration of all things Earth, from the planetary to our neighborhoods. This collaborative event was envisioned, initiated and is being steered by a group of artists and activists. Using a mix of exhibits, performances, presentations, hands-on creations, movement and discourse, the Gaia Gathering aims to inform, educate, challenge, inspire and move us to action. The diverse programs and schedule of events are designed to appeal and be accessible to a wide range of ages and interests. Threshold provides a perfect container and conduit for these offerings as well a hub for highlighting many of our wonderful community organizations and individuals and encouraging cross fertilization and collaboration. With the exception of the opening concert fundraiser, all events and activities are free and open to the public! Self and Community at the Edge:
Exploring the Meeting Ground of Fear and Courage

A Public Talk and Workshop by Flint Sparks, PhD
Wednesday, April 24, 6:45 pm - 8:15 pm (public talk)
Thursday, April 25, 9:00 am - 4:30 pm (workshop)

There often is interplay of fear and courage in our personal relationships, professional environments, and community. In this talk and workshop we will contemplate the five "Edge States" of empathy, integrity, respect, engagement and altruism, as described by the esteemed medical anthropologist and Zen teacher, Joan Halifax. These are a lens through which we can examine the complexity of our shared lives. We will study how the compassionate and care-full cultivation of these qualities can provide us with ways to attend to the tension between fear and courage in our community engagements.

CORE Circle: It's Not Easy Being Green
Facilitated by Jennifer Wilson
April 10, 9:30 - 11:30 am

We’re inundated with alarming media messages about climate change and environmental degradation on a daily basis. It can be overwhelming and easy to just not think about the environment in our day to day lives, but it’s our daily lives that provide us with opportunities to make choices that have impact. In this Circle, Jen Wilson will guide us in experiential activities to figure out why we sometimes don’t make choices we think we “should”, and what we can do in those moments when it’s not easy to be green.

“Ours is not the task of fixing the entire world all at once, but of stretching out to mend the part of the world that is within our reach.” – Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes

RECURRING PROGRAMMING AT THRESHOLD:

Resound Choir
Mondays, March 11 - May 13, 2019,  7:00 pm to 8:30 pm

Resound is a queer-friendly, all-voices-welcome community 'choir'.

All are welcome to experience the joy of singing in a fun, supportive community setting. You're invited whether you're an old time choir veteran or you've never sung outside your own shower. People of all ages, genders, orientations, backgrounds, and abilities are welcome!

Resound is a unique community choir experience in that there are no auditions, no 'performances', and no binders of sheet music to keep track of. We are more of a "quire" than a "choir"! All repertoire is taught on the spot in the aural tradition--a call and response way of sharing that makes singing accessible to all and allows us to drop more easily into our collective sound.
